A good friend of mine has a 1.8T standard except dump valve and tt wheels, whist I own a GT TDI 110BHP with whats called on here as a CHEAP a tuning box. I had my car for over 2 years a year with the tuning box (which i am over the moon with seeing I have done over 35k with it on and no problems what so ever) Whist both driving home from a friends last night in our own cars we had a play from 60 till 100+ (was a private road) and he couldn't gain on me, this has been the case at different speeds too... Should this be so?[?]

If you are running similar power with your tuning box then I'd guess this is right.

Have you had you car on a Rolling road? Should get them both on a RR and see what comes back, would be interesting to see.

I've pulled away from 150bhp GTIs on the swallowfield by-pass just south of Reading from 40mph upwards. It's quite fun!

I've got a 110tdi with a speedbuster tuning box and a milltek cat-back exhaust. I'm looking forward to getting the de-cat downpipe from Ade @ Awesome in the next month :)

I have a Mk 4 Golf TDI 115bhp 3 door and when I originally got it I had a tuning box put on it that was sourced from East Coast Racing in Norfolk - although the gains in performance where noticable I wouldnt say that my car was as quick as a 150bhp petrol Golf. (I sell cars so I get to drive a lot of different models) I surfed about a bit and found a company called WWW.JABBASPORT.CO.UK based on the border of Peterborough and Lincoinshire - for ?425 (about ?75 more than I paid for the tuning box) they set my car up on a rolling road and reprogrammed my original ECU upto 159 bhp compared to what they said the tuning box was giving me which was only 133bhp - I know there are a few companys that specialise in VAG group cars with diesel engines but I can honestly say that JABBASPORT were friendly, enthusiastic and more worried about doing a good job than how much money they can take. Oh, I forgot to mention - my car goes like poo poo-off-of-a-stick, and beats petrol cars with much more BHP from standing start and in gear on road. The next phaze that my car is going through in a couple of weeks time is for it to be sent away to a company called ALLARD TURBOSPORT (their recomdation brought me here in the first place)for a race clutch upgrade(Alcon), Hybrid turbo with Migual Racing ECU and re-program, Fabricated inlet manifold, fabricated intercooler, Alcon 4 pot brake upgrade to race spec and rolling road setup - all of that coupled with the Miltek de-cat exhaust and sports downpipe I already have fitted should equate to about 210-230bhp and no less than 350lbft without having to change the gearbox. I will post more when the car is back - If any of you have already had a 'big'upgrade done on your TDI, then please let me know what gains you got and whether you think it was worth it

Sorry for dragging on, but I am new [}:)]

I doubt I will be going to any meets in the near future purely down to work commitments, but who knows for the future - would be nice to meet up with others with the same interests. As regards to the upgrade im not exactly sure, Alan Allard who owns the company is still working on some figures for me but I guess that im not going to get much change out of ?3k, and thats with him doing a discount for me. My car will become available probably in June/July time when I will then have availability to a 04 plate Seat Leon Cupra TDi from a friend - if any of you would be interested in my Golf about that time with all the upgrades then let me know what sort of value you'd see it at. Heres a brief description of spec:-

Golf Tdi PD 115 bhp 3 door in Black

X reg/2000

6 speed gearbox

2 owners from new

Car looks standard from the outside (keep the old bill away)

apart from being lowered by 40mm with springs

Santa Monica 17" wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres

85000 miles at the moment so will be about 90k by the time of sale

Fully rebuilt engine (I work for the dealership that I bought it from and I wanted to make sure the engine was sound, not because there was a problem), fully serviced, recent cam belt change and tensioners changed at same time, only ever had PD oil from VW.

General condition of car is very good for age/milage.

Please remember that by the time this car becomes available it will be running at no less than 210bhp and 350 pounds of torque with Alcon brakes, Helix or Alcon upgraded clutch, large front mounted intercooler, large inlet manifold and full Miltek exhaust and sports downpipe and I will have RR printouts to prove output.

Like I said, if anyone is going to be interested in this in the next 5-6 months let me know and we can talk more.

Andy
