Hi

A friend is about to buy his wife a Golf to replace her ageing escort.

Here is the spec of the one he is about to buy,

T plate (May) Golf GTI 1.8T 5 dr

49000 mls (50,000 ml service not done)

Dark Grey Metallic

Black/Red Recaros

Climatronic

Sunroof

No CD Player

3 Month Warranty

£8150 (this is the price he's haggled to, the guy won't budge any more)

Sound like a good deal?

Any common problems that he should look for?

Common Problems are the coil packs, theres a recall out at the moment for the 1.8t cars they should have part number 06B905115L installed on all 4. Also the window regulators although not a recall theres a repair kit out now for the plastic clips which replaces them with metal ones which are alot stronger and less likely to break budget about £28.00 per door on this part and about £18.00 per coil.

Yep, towards Bury. Garage has quite a few Mercs and BM's

Did you go and see it? What did you think of it?

Wellsy,

Car sounds a reasonable price..My car had been for sale for 6-7 weeks and had only one person show any serious interest:

T plate (April) Golf GTI 1.8T 5 dr

44000 mls (lower mileage)

Indigo Blue Metallic

Black Recaros

Climatronic

6 CD Player

8 month old V6 alloys/tyres

Full VAGSH

I was after @£7800-8000.

I have been forced to sell the car to a BMW dealer for £7K which seems really cheap to me but fortunately the replacement car makes it worthwhile.

a green car with red recaro's... thats not a very good combination of colour. Will they have problems selling it on when it comes to selling it?

Wellsy - No, didnt go to see it mate....... bit of a trek for me, plus, for the very reason which Mark said, i thought the combo of Anthracite Grey paint, and grey/red recaro's was a bit odd to say the least.

I saw an Anthracite Grey 150TDI with a cream leather interior the other day!! I think the red/black trim looks good in a black car but I'm not generally keen on red as an interior colour. Mate once had a silver 328ci with red leather seats; looks so naff imo.

Just been with him to see another car an Bradford which he's just bought. Decided that he wanted an Indigo Blue one after seeing a few. (and some pointing in the right direction from me)

2000 X plate 5 Dr GTI 1.8T

Indigo Blue

Recaro Seats

Single CD

Air/con (not climate)

F VW SH

56000 mls

The garage are repairing the back bumper which has a gouge in it, giving it a full Valet and the 60000 mile service at a VW garage.

1yr Warranty

£8400

The gear lever was a bit stiffer than mine and didn't return to the middle on it's own. They are going to get this looked at. He's left a deposit and providing they do everything they say they are doing to it, he's going back next Friday to pick it up.
