Hi

The turbo on my Golf tdi 130 ASZ engine has gone.

Can I use the turbo from a 2.0 tdi 140 as a direct replacement? The type is

03G 253 019 A - 03G253019

Garrett Part Number: GT1749VA

Appreciate any help!!!

Thanks

They fit totally differently IIRC - manifold is upside down or something. Like Diddles says, get a pd150 turbo (GT1749vb rather than GT1749va). Straight swap. All your injectors, pipework inlet etc are the same as on a 150 car, only real difference is the FMIC on a 150 compared to the SMIC on a 130; and even then your SMIC will be adequate.

Get it custom mapped after fitting for best results.

EDIT: Just to clarify - the GT1749va part number you list infers the turbo itself is the same as on a 130, but like I said I'm pretty sure the exhaust manifold sits differently on a BKD. GT1749vb off a Leon 150, Golf 150 etc, has the correct manifold with it.

Thanks for replies.

Adam

A: I bought it

B: There seller thinks it was from a 1.9 engine hence why i posted the picture link

C; I am listening to all comments and am very grateful to them. I just want to make sure.

Diddles,

I know what you mean which is why I bought it but the part numbers just don't add up so hence double checking with the forum.

I feel like being on the safe side and getting one I know will definately fit.

ignore my first post, thats me being an idiot. BUT....the first picture does actually look like its a 1.9 turbo (compared it to mine) the thing that throws it is the part number in the second picture works out as a BKD turbo which has a round exhaust exit and the seller has typed a different part number yet also works out as BKD.

so either its two seperate turbos pictured or some sort of hybrid. i guess you`ll only find out when it turns up. try and get some pics up when it does for curiosity

Hi Adam,

You are correct. I emailed the seller today and he has added the turbo from a 2.0 turbo to the manifold of a 1.9. I got cold feet about it and he has very kindly agreed to cancel my bid. It may well have been OK but it's so much hassle if it's not right. I just want to bolt it on and get back on the road. I've found another one that matches the part number from a 130 now. Hope it's OK....hate buying second hand turbos!

ASZ and ARL engine turbos are the same part, one will have a part number ending in A, the other B, perhaps further through the alphabet - don't know which engine was built first but they are the same turbo but the letter at the end denotes the revision or so VW dealer told me.

I can, however, most definitely tell you the turbo from an AJM, ALH, AHF and AUY engine will NOT fit.

Wow, this thread is full of bizarre misinformation..... [:S]

ASZ and ARL turbos are NOT the same. They might be visually - and share the GT1749v code, but the 'a' and the 'b' suffix denote ASZ and ARL respectively.

The ARL turbo has different internals and can run higher boost. Hence why one car makes about 130bhp and one car makes about 150bhp.
