Would anyone be up for this?

I am going up to santapod with a lot of people of the civictype-r.co.uk forums, probably up to 10 of them going. Would be good if there was more than one mk5 GTI to take them on ? [;)]

Should be good as both cars are equal in standard form I used to own a CTR and I'd say the GTI is slightly faster up the 1/4 mile but theres really nothing in it.

I think the type r may pip you. Are you running software or just standard if standard the def the lower weight helps with the 0-60ft time which is what really counts.

If you have time strip out as much as you can from the interior.

When I had the CTR I could not get quicker than 15.2 and most owners are getting low 15's

My first run in the golf got me a 14.9 on a very hot day and I've had a few 14.8's all as standard. The GTI is I think around 120kg's more than the CTR but I believe the ammount of torque makes up for this. The result is both cars are sub 15 second 1/4 mile as standard but I think the GTI it a lot easier to launch.

The gear changes on the civic have to be a lot more precise, it's a lot easier to hit the rev limit. In the golf you can change up before you get to 7000 and if you do hit the limiter it's smooth and not sudden as the CTR.

Despite the high reving i-vtec engine the gearing is similar on both cars, you can reach 60 (@~6900rpm) in the golf before the change to third, but not in the civic (60 would be @ 8400rpm but the limiter kicks in at 8150). The 4th gear change is almost identical changing at around 90mph.

So watching the golf verses the civic as a spectator, the golf should have the edge on the start, pulling up to a car and a half's length in front at best. The civic will then reel it back in from second gear vtec and really push after changing to 3rd. It will look like the civic is about to take the golf at the line but a critical 4th gear change could seal it for either car.

I havn't given it much thought. [:p]

Of course if they cant launch there car then by the sounds of it you will be at an advantage then but IMO with similar skilled drivers as standard I would place money on the civic.

Anyway my comment still stands get that interior out.

P.S. The in your where was that achieved ?

I'm working on getting the interior out, not sure how to go about it yet though.

The in my was at santapod. It's just my gti is no longer standard spec. [:)] It will go faster I'm hoping for sub 14 with slicks.

doh should read what I have written was the 14.38 on standard power or modded if standard thats a pretty good time fella.

Slicks now one thing I would be wary of is drive shafts as with slicks they are notorious for snapping.

As far as the interior goes the back seats are normally easy if they are anything like the old mk4 seats ? then they are removed by pushing forward then locating on either side the spring loaded catch which clamps over the bolt on the edge of the seat back simple push back the latch over it.

Having owned and raced a CTR at Santa Pod, I can say with quite high certainty that,a s petrified says, the GTI will win as it is simply easier to launch... the CTR is an absolute bast%^d to launch there []

The civictype-r.co.uk guys are alright, i was with them when I had my CTR [:)]

I agree with you on the launch theory on the CTR mate. They can be an arse due to you needing to get them into Vtec in 1st asap, without sitting there in a cloud of smoke. 15.2 can easily be dipped under though mate, with the right launch. Mine was completely standard (apart from being well run in with 70,000k on it) and it ran a 14.5 @ 97mph best. But I often ran a 14.7/8 average at Pod in hot conditions.

This shoot out sounds like a right laugh and i'd be there if I wasn't going on holiday tomorrow.. :-( Even though I have changed cars now, i'd of loved to of joined in. As I know all the Pod goers on the Civictype-r.co.uk site well. Have fun anyway... (My money's on the CTR's though i'm afraid..

What mods have you got on your GTI mate? What re-map? Mate's getting one soon and wants to know which re-map to get.

It doesnt look like there will be a shoot out, at least not this time. Probably be a few CTR's then 1 or 2 GTI's turn up. I'm hoping we could arrange something maybe for september, a lot of them are going down on the 25th (I think)

Funny, I was there for the CTR Vs LCR day. [:D]

14.5 is a great time, though. Hats off to you! [H]

I only managed to run against 1 civic. I had a 14.4 and he had a 14.9 so I guess it was a sucess. [:)]
I also saw one or two get low 15's and a NOS powered CTR got a 16second run (not sure what happened there?)

Some of the others were pretty quick, modded and stripped out getting low 14's. There was a supercharged civic running low 13's too !

My fastest time of the day was a 14.3 @ 95 as you can see in my sig. The car felt a bit bogged down may have been due to the hot weather. I had a few 14.3's the previous week at around 99.5 mph so I'm guessing the car can be a lot quicker, just down to the driver.

I'll be back there on the 25th September if anyone else wants to come. [:D]

I'll look up the times later and let you now, I'm still quite new to all this. It could be to do with me running lower tyre pressures on the second run. I was getting way too much wheel spin off the line and it was suggested I lower to 25 psi. It was a lot better off the line but looks like the downside is the top speed being lower.
