So one day my Golf decided that it no longer wanted to open its boot for me. The central locking works fine on the doors, just will no longer open the boot.

I dont have a remote key fob, just a normal key, and have never used it to open the boot as the lock is all corroded

I have climbed inside the boot this afternoon and I have read on this forum that you can rip the door card off and fix the lock, question is how?

Pulling on this peice doesn't work as attached to the lock...

But pulling on the handles does nothing, even with the 2 screws removed...

Should I rag this bit?...

Am I just being weak or what?

Ive tried flooding the lock with wd40 from the outside but no luck

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

I had the same problem with mine, boot just would not open. Spray loads of wd40 everywhere, and keep jiggling everything and moving all mechanism around by hand, and more wd40. With mine one of the latches wouldnt spring back, either leaving the boot open, or not letting it close because it wouldnt spring back into place. But literall loads of wd40, a good clean, and more wd40 sorted it out for me.

Just had mine all apart today to fit a new handle. The brass bar along the top of that pic just above the top of the red circle is a retaining clip. If you lever that out with a screwdriver then pop the circlip of the end of the pivot bar for the handle and pull it out to the right (Catch the spring as you do coz it'll twang off) and then undo the three torx screws holding the handle plate in place the whole handle assembly will be free. Use a small socket as a drift on the outside lock (where you put the key) and give it a few sharp taps with a hammer and the lock mech will pop free of the handle and you can withdraw the handle giving better access the lock.....then clean and grease it all up and reassemble :)
