Hi, I hope you may be able to solve my problem with my 2000 vw golf mk4 2.0 cabrio

Starts fine
Driving off in the morning apparently a fuel blockage after about 200 yards.
After that hesitation after changing gear and lack of power.
Appears to run better when fuel tank is between 60% an 40% full.

Problem disappears when the fuel return pipe is pinched to stop fuel return after the pressure valve.

Fuel pressure valve changed
Coil changed
Plugs changed
Fuel filter changed
Fuel cap slightly loosened

My next 'link in the chain' to try is to change the fuel pump.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you

Ok so, suddenly the engine just doesnt pull at all. So I had to buy the pump anyway (Aliexpress not so express if you get my drift).

Replaced the fuel pump - no change.

So, filter, regulator, and pump now all changed.

Where from here? My pressure meter should arrive next month, but now the car isnt even drivable.

Yes P0171

.....and something I have also noticed.
When I switch off the engine, there is a hissing noise, like a punctured bicycle tyre, which lasts about five seconds.
The sound appears to be coming from somewhere around the hydraulic steering system. I've loosened the hydraulic filler cap but that changes nothing.
