Hi guys

Just bought a Black Golf Gti Turbo 1999 and it had a misfire. VW have checked it and tightened a coil and fitted a new MAF sensor which has corrected the problem for two weeks and it has returned albeit not a bad. Any advice please....[:(]

Try cleaning the contacts up on the intermediate amp stage, bolted to the airbox with two cables connected.

Some have used contact cleaner and others have scraped them clean using a knife.

The vw assistance guy who came out to mine when it was misfiring very badly did this and it's been ever since.. *touch wood* [:D]

Not to hand, but it is easy to find. The module is bolted to the back of the airbox (i.e. the face towards to back of the car). It has two cables connected to it one at either end. If you push the spring clip in the connector with come off.

There has been problems with coil packs on the turbo engine's but only on the 2001/2002 models. Might be worth checking though.

Not quite true.. I had a few go on my 1998 AGU. I think they've been all across the board, from what you read on here (esp).

Computer at work playing up, dont know why it posted it so many times(must be this dodgy VW computer).

Not denying you will get coil pack problems on older turbos but VW know of a big problem with ones around 2001/2002 and these should be automatically check by the dealer when a car is in for service.

I kind of had the same thing connected with the fuel except mine is fine when i refuel it only starts happening when its past 1/4 full mark. But maybe this is just my mind!

Really need to get round to cleaning the contacts up on the intermediate amp stage though
