I'm Suspecting one or more faulty glow plugs as on very cold starts, it's hard to start and when it does, smokes like mad - continuous stream of blue/grey smoke which eases off as the engine warms

This can't be good for fuel economy

So the real Question is what are the best plugs to use, Bosch, NGK etc?

Cheers

I think Bosch are what VW use and re-brand as their own anyway mate, if not they are a highly recommended on here, they are the more expensive out of the two.

Im running my 2nd set of NGK's and i have no problems with them, used to use them in my old 306 D-Turbo too.

I had no luck with Bosch ones, bought them and install'd this summer as a prep for the winter, few days ago I discovered that two of them are dead.

Replaced them with BERU glow plugs now,at my working place we have a fleet of T4,s 2.5 TDI engines with the same ones install'd and not a single one is gone in aprox 2 years now
