Glowplug light blinking/emissions workshop light on - many fault codes

635 Views 10 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  silentnight
Hi Guys,

I am not sure what to try in order to get these issues resolved.

i would ideally like to deal with it myself but also if anyone is local and willing i am happy to pay - i have taken it to several reputable garages in my area and none of them want to even look at it

So as the story goes....

I was on my way to pick up my girlfriend from work - the car was driving fine... my girlfriend wasn't finished yet so i turned the car off.
when she was done i turned the ignition on and up came a blinking glow plug light/emissions workshop warning on the dash - car still started/seems to be driving fine.

this isn't the first time it has happened - i previously cleared the fault codes thinking maybe it was just a fluke.

i have done another diagnostic scan on the car - the EXACT same codes (and theres quite a few of them) came up as last time..

Please see post below.

If anyone can manage to shed some light on what may be causing this or steps i can take to try and fix the issue you have no idea how appreciated it will be.

Thanks!

The car is a VW Bora 1.9 TDI ASZ

So it drives exactly as it should,i.e. there's nothing wrong with it that you can feel?

P.S. Please only post your question in one section,I have deleted the other two.
Sorry - i wasnt sure on the best section to get help on this, since it might be electrical or the engine? - where should i have put it btw? (also i wasnt sure what happened, didnt know it had been deleted so i just recreated one)

the car pretty much drives as it should - maybe a bit down on power but its probaly just placebo
Also my profile has changed from 50 posts - did you reset my account or something?

Not me,only admins or a glitch in the database can do that.

Read this please before you spend any money........THE ONBOARD DIAGNOSTICS THREAD
Thats a very interesting read, thanks - i do understand it doesn't nessercily mean the sensor is dodgy though, im just looking for ideas of what to check for in order to resolve it (talking about the cam position/engine speed sensor, which i believe are the same thing on this engine?)

I was working on the car with my dad today to fix something else and we noticed a notch missing out of the pancake pipe where the clip is suposed to hold it in, air was leaking out of it - we have temporarily repaired the issue, but i am wondering if any of these codes (especially cam/speed sensor) can be triggered by too little air/too much diesel due to an air leak and thus timing advancing/retarding....

im probably on the totally wrong track but it seems very odd, because after doing a temp repair to that pipe for the leak the emissions workshop/glowplug light disapeared and the only other thing i did was refix the plastic engine bay guard to the bottom of the car lol

well, this is the first time i found that notch on the pancake pipe was broken - as i said this emissions workshop warning/glow plug light blinking has happened a few times now, totaling 4 or 5 i think - i do want to get something done to rectify the issue instead of ignoring it
Ok then,as it says in my guide clear the codes and see what comes back and then MAYBE use that as a starting point.
i had cleared them before twice - the other times they went and came back on their own, and it was these exact codes each time
