I know a guy who had a lovely sounding install in his mk3 (until he wrote it off!) Consisted of Alpine headunit, DLS reference components and Genesis profile 4 amp. Later he installed a JL amp, which gave bags of sub-bass, but it stll sounded great, mainly due to Dynamat in the whole car. A lot of work, but definitely worth it.
Im hoping to get similar in my mk4, Alpine h/u, Focal speakers up front and Genesis amp, this was reccommended bt my local car hifi shop, they have an excellent pedigree.
