recently purchased a 99 v bora tdi, mite i say fantastic fuel economy comfortable drive and plenty of scope for tinkering. dont get to drive it that often as its for the missus really, but seem to be throwing more and more cash its way!

anyways, took it out for a blast today in the snow. upon commencing said 'blast', got out of town to approach a roundabout started dropping through the gears and it seems there is some sort of 'squeal/bbbrrraaapppp' noise when the clutch pedal is released.

im sure its not my driving, and my missus says she hasn't noticed it before... mind you she does like the speakers almost poppin when she is driving.

so was really just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

ok, so the noise only seems to be present when the engine is cold. seems to disappear when the engine has warmed up.

want try a diagnose what the problem is with out taking it to a garage, can anybody help me out?

I've had something similar since this cold weather started. It would only do it on the down change to 4th but it would make a noise very similar to blowing over the top of a coke bottle when you released the clutch. it did this regardless of the engine temperature. I thought id start with the cheapest and simplest solution and grease the cables joining to the gear box, and, touch wood (knocks head) it seems to have done the trick.

Might be worth a go.
