cheers mate. i thought it would be as simple as that. so i take im looking at 2 bolts for the caliper to undo, 2 bolts for the old carriers to undo, 2 torx screws that hold the disc to the hub, then rubber hammer the flip out of the disc for it to come loose from the hub?

Mike,

Instead of using a 7mm allen key buy an allen sockey instead - makes the job a LOT, LOT easier trust me. also you might need a drill and metrill bit - the discs are held on with a cross head screw that has a habbit of rounding it's head at the first sign of a screw driver...

So let me get this straight, I have a 99 Gt Tdi, adn they use the same calipers as the Audi TT (225bhp) model, only the Audi has larger discs (with caliper carriers to suit? So all I need is the bigger discs and caliper carriers?? If so, I'm getting this?

Is there a smallest wheel restriction (not for me as I have 18's - but for others reading this)????

No - the pre-130PD TDis don't have the same calipers as the TT.

Easily identified the 90/100/110/115 TDis have 280mm discs with FS-III calipers - to change to 288mm and then 312mm discs you'll need to change the whole hub before doing the 'carrier mod'.

How big can you go i have 18" wheels on my Bora which is a tdi 130 54 reg or what would you suggest as a brake upgrade cost also being an issue.[H]
You can fit the 312mm conversion behind most 16inch wheels and defo anything past that size.

If you on a very tight budget then you can always just upgrade your current size discs and pads. Otherwise the 312mm conversion is a good compromise before the Brembo quality brakes and can be done for under ?200 with second hand parts.

Been hunting for 312mm discs on eBay.co.uk and can only find EBC ones. Had EBC on my bike once and didn't rate them in terms of value.

Hunting on German ebay I found this....plus plenty of other listings (search: TT Brems*

Anyone speak German? Surely they're not flogging a pair of discs for what GBP 90.

Or are they made of a cheese like susbtance not suited?

Cheers

So whats involved inc hanging the hubs when going from the FS setup to to the 312s? How much extra ?? would you reckon too?
To go from FS-III 280mm hubs to 312mm:

1. Source some hubs from a 1.8T/TDi 130+ etc to get the basics, i.e. hubs and calipers and get them fitted. (secondhand - guess at ?50+)

2. Fit caliper carriers from a TT or similar with 312mm discs and voila! the calipers and pads are exactly the same as the 288mm ones so will not need changing. Unless you're fitting brand new discs where you should always fit new pads (DIY job) - carriers rarely found for under ?100 so budget around there - discs etc from GSF or Euro car parts.

3. Alternatively source some 312mm spec hubs discs and calipers complete and do the whole job in one go - S3/Anni/TT etc. (I guess again at ?300+)

Others may have better ideas on prices 'cos these are guesses for the most part.

I managed to find some 1.8T hubs and have fitted those with some EBC pads and the improvement is very noticeable. I'm now just waiting for the right deal on some 312mm parts as I see the mod as a nice to have rather than essential (let's face it I'm not exactly running 200bhp here[;)])
