Hmmm weird, its been (to me, compared to other sites I use daily) a little slow today, and whilst trying to reply to a post I've just hit the following twice:

Slow!!! that's the biggest understatement of 2005. I am seriously thinking of giving this forum the bigh heave-ho as I'm visibly ageing waiting for pages to download etc. Must be the slowest forum/website on the planet.

Not a solution to the forum problems which I'm sure David is working on
(although it's always been fine for me [:S]), but why don't you try
doing something else while the page is loading? You can open another
browser window or tab & browse other sites while the page loads in
the background, or even work on a different software program.

marvin what do you use? connection, ISP ??
I use Wanadoo's dial-up and have been quite happy with it for the last few years. I don't want to say any more but it seems to be this website which is ultra slow to me although some people here seem to take exception to my comments - cannot think why? I do intend going over to Broadband in the not so distant future but certainly don't intend to do it just for uk-mkiv.net!!!!

what slows down my page loads is only when im creating/replying to topics and it has to load up all those smilies induvidually :(

other than that the site appears to run very smoothly, and i love the active topics link from the index page :)

Ok, I would super strongly suggest using firefox as your browser,(if you don't already that is[:$]) it is far more quicker and efficent, I have used it way back when it was called mozzila?? (can't remember the name now!!) and I had dial up!! It really made a difference.

Now in Fire fox, there is an addon called "adblock" this provides you with the ability to block/turnoff the picture headers at the to of the page and any stupid popup advertisments on other web sites! - This can/will speed things up even more. My Parents were using ( please forgive them) AOL [:$] but use Fire fox as their browser, so much quicker!!

Have a try, see what you thing, THEN when you do go over to broadband you will really see things fly!!

The firefox down load will take a small amount of time but is well worth it!!

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=10&application=firefox = Adblock btw

Spyware: people may mock (and i'm the first to bash MS down) but this product is actually quite good!!

I regularly use this site on 2 Meg DSL, 512k DSL and 56k and can honestly say I've never noticed the site behaving horrendously slow - even on the 56k link. The only bit that kills a busy or slow link is the loading of the post editor.

im on 2mb broadband and use windows ie

what are the advantages to mozilla firefox
One being the tabbed browsing, which means that you don't have to open multiple windows, you can view multiple sites from one window, I love this function.

As a result of it being so good, IE is (or have plans) fo their future release to have this functionality.

Have a look here for much more: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ if you were using Firefox, you could right click this link and open in another tab without loosing your current viewing of the ukmkiv site.
