after having a number of Golfs, including a MK1 GTi, MK3 VR6 and lastly my MK4 GT TDi PD130...i have gone over to the dark side of....BMW!!!

so thanks to all the folks that have helped me out with advice and information over the last 17 months. cheerio guys.

Been there; owned an E46 325i which always got rave reviews in the press; I came back to another MKIV Golf. BMWs do handle well(ride suffers though imo) but other than that; mine was expensive to fuel/insure, barely quicker than 1.8T, no better built, numerous faults(visited garage 8 times in 12 months) and local dealer is even worse than average VW dealer.

some funny comments there lads!! well done!! i know, i may regret it at some point but need a bigger car and there aint nothin other than a golf in vw's range that i fancy other than toureg (how much!!!?). so have bought a 5 series diesel with lots of toys on it, sat nav, telly, pokey engine, leather, pdc...blah...blah...couldnt really let this one slip by either. thing is golf prices are slipping now the mk5 is out and tbh i thought get the best price for mine now before its worth naff all or has 100K on it.

525d @ Richard W. couldnt justify the extra costs, like between 3 & 6K for 20bhp more! same everything else so think got a bargain. no, suppose not quite a golf nutter no more...though i still lust after MK1 GTi's and who knows i may venture into that money pit again in the future.

already a member there and at bmw car magazine forum! was sad to see the golf go, but cant argue with the fact that the 5 series is a better car (sorry!) and i am sure someone will prove me wrong on that!

I used to own a mk3 vr6, loved it!!!!! Then i bought an mtech sport 328i (got it to look flash), had it for 10 months.......now have an r32. I'll never buy a BMW again! I love VW!!!!!!
