Went to overtake a new shape focus tdci the other night on a dual carrige way. As he saw me switching lanes he decided to put his foot down.

all i can say is jesus christ. I wouldnt have thought i would have bother getting past him.........but i really struggled to keep with him. The torque on these things must be massive.

Even the old shape focus diesel had a superb engine by all accounts, hated the old shape tho.

The old shape focus tdci only had 115bhp so wasn't that fast, I used to be able to get past them (just!) when my tdi was only 90bhp. I've heardf that the later ones overfuelled a lot (by design, I dunno) so I suppose that would've speeded them up a bit.

The new Focus TDCi is about 135bhp.

0-60's for Pumpe Duse (standard)

PD100 11.3sec

PD110 10.6sec

PD130 9.6sec

PD150 8.60sec

the best bhp version of the TDCI is 135bhp, my friend has a C-MAX version [:$]

I'd say he did a 4th or 5th gear pull away.......

we were both doing around 40 at the time when i decided to put my foot down. (I had a nearly empty tank too!)

i'd say he made 1 1/2 car lengths on me b4 i backed off

Looked on the ford website but it doesnt say how much torque they have, only has the bhp figure

But remember also how light is a ford focus compared to a golf?? So theres the weight to power ratio difference aswell.

Same engine as the new S40 2.0D I think - they chip to around 180bhp so perhaps it had been tuned?

Anyway, diesels are quicker than petrols, everyone knows that []

so pwer to weight would be in the golfs favour.......

Thats shocking I never knew that, its always felt to me that the focus
is a lighter car as i normally judge by how easy it is to close the
door, as the golf doors are heaviar than the focus ones.

The Golf GT TDI 150,would certainly leave the Focus for dead standard,but since putting the 19's on mine,i am not so sure,only one thing for it.............................REVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mate has a 115 TDCi Focus and it is every bit as fast as my chipped 110bhp TDi Passat which has 132bhp and 242ft/lbs of torque. And my Passat is as fast as Gerards Golf GT TDi 110 which is chipped to 150bhp.

There is no way a standard 90bhp TDi Golf would look near, never mind pass, a 115 TDCi Focus unless the Focus was towing a caravan or something.

My PD150 with REVO disabled V my Dad's brand new Focus 2.0 TDCI with us driving our respective cars. Result Ford destroyed by VW. Swap drivers and Focus is beaten but only just. Moral of story, driver skill and readiness counts for a LOT.
