Follow the start of Foxys guide to Cruise Control as this documents the removal of the airbag and steering wheel.
Its really easy and in now way should you pay the dealer to rip you off!!

You will need an M12 spline drive which is available from most motor factors for around ?6.

Be sure do disconnect the negative terminal from the battery before removing the airbag then reconnect after you have finished (doh!) making sure the key is not in the ignition.

That price the stealer has quoted you is a joke!

I bought a 2nd hand steering wheel to replace the shiny/worn one on my old mk4.

Turned up at my stealers, grabbed one of the mechanics on the car park, asked if he could fit it for me.

Took him all of 10 mins and only asked me for ?5 to cover his lunch!

Just had a look at the website. How do you move the wheel if the the neagtive has been taken off the battery ? Is it just very stiff ?

I will mess this up !

May have to try and find a mate of a mate somehow !

Unclip both sides of the airbag first before disconnecting the negative.

Don't unplug the airbag before disconnection otherwise you will get the
warning light on the dash, easily cleared with vagcom though.

Phoned up a few places, but cant book me in until next saturday ( I cant waiti that long ) Some are saying 45 mins some say longer as they need to check the chassis number as some air bags need to be left for an hour or so ????

Shall I try it myself ? The airbag light defo wont come on if I disconnect the negative ?

Im scared !!!

Seriously though, its no real biggy.

Just take your time with it, TBH the hardest part is releasing the
clips which hold the airbag on. If you can't manage that then you won't
be able to get inside to do any real damage!!

Once its fitted, if I do it myself.  can I check the airbag with Vagcom to make sure it works ? Rather than crashing to find it doesnt ?

You finally got one then Matty, nice one.  I was going to offer to help you when you asked for help but I've been away all week.  Glad you got it sorted, it's pretty easy isn't it.

No problem at all Matty [:)]

Glad you got there in the end, now you can sit back and feel really chuffed with yourself.

When I took my airbag off for the first time I released the first pin
but upon releasing the second the airbag shot forwards and ended up
with me juggling with it then dropping it [:O]

I froze, waiting for the inevitable, must have had somebody looking down on me that day [:D]
