Hurt the car you mean? That mullet will have protected the bloke. Wish he would get a haircut and a shave!

Absolutely pointless test of the Subaru and Volvo. Can you imagine Joe and Marjory Bloggs who have 2.4 children and a labrador looking for a ?25k estate car car and trying to judge them coutesy of a jumped up stupid bint who cannot drive worth a monkeys, racing them round a 1 mile track and not on how much space they have, how much fuel it uses, servicing intervals, equipment levels etc etc?!

The Civic looked really cool and that airbag test was an eye opener.

Did anyone else see the exhaust hanging off the Volvo? In some shots it was sorted but others it had one side hanging down really badly?

u gotta take your hats off to Fifth Gear. They do actually do some useful stuff, like that air bar test! they always seem to have some good test they have done!

Tiff was lucky in that Cayman, lol

How much more can they try and rip off Top Gear?

Sun Night - Top Gear - Parked to the side of the Top Gear track was a White and Blue Jumbo Jet

Mon Night - 5th Gear - Parked to the side of the "crash a crappy rover into an equally crappy escort Tarmac" was a white and blue Jumbo Jet!

I'd Sky+'d about 5 episodes of this new series of fifth gear and figured it was about time I watched em to clear out some space. Took me about an hour to get through the lot. It's RIGHT boring!!
I know they review normal cars and stuff, but.. amusing TV it just don't make!

Gimmie Top Gear any time! [:D]

Every test they do round that track is point less. I mentoined the same in last weeks thread about the Jag/Merc test..........complete waist of time

To be fair i don't think Fifth Gear have any where near the financial resourses that Top Gear have.

Clarkson & co seem to have been given a blank cheque and a lot of freedom to do what they like, We all benefit from that with good entertainment.

Even with Clarkson's over the top sarcasm and stuff you gotta admit he's a great showman..

I dont think they get a blank cheque as such, if anything JC is always moaning that for the amount of viewers they get he gets the lowest budget!

But I guess they also have the TOP GEAR magazine which brings in alot of revenue and his contacts in the motor trade must be massive now..

Remember, it won an EMMY!! lol.....

Adverts, that annoyed the hell out of me last night. It's something i guess we take for granted with TG but the first break was straight after Tiff's first piece on the Caymen and it felt like it had only been on for about 3 mins.

I think TG must have a pretty big budget if they can keep doing those cross continent races and (in the last episode) afford to by three italian supercars for about ?30K and run at least one of them until the engine distintegrated (with a big end going through the crank case!).

Fifth gear on the otherhand gives away nice new cars in its competition but probably the only it can fund that it through the sky high phone charge... I was tempted to enter for the ST and the Civic though :)

All things in perspective - ?30K for a feature on a show isn't that huge. Think how much chat shows have to pay to get guests on etc... then they have the magazine budget as well which those 3 italian cars will feature in and then they'll sell the cars on and get most of that ?27K back!

Exactly. I doubt it really costs that much to produce top gear after the wages have been paid. Everything will get flogged on. I doubt they have to pay anything to hire any of the supercars cars they use in their stunts.. all probably be payed for by the manufacturers who are likely very keeeeen indeed to get some air time.

Thing is, it makes for great entertainment. And they do review the cars we like. Can't complain.. they've reviewed the new GTI, the CooperS in many interations, the Focus ST, the Evo and the Impreza et al. And hey, they loved all of em [:D]
So we know out cars are good.. so lets look at some more supercars and stunts!! Fifth gear just fall so far short. It pains me when they try to be funny... but they're just not!
I must be honest, I'm not watching Top Gear for any remote informative purposes. I just like the stupidity. If I wanted a normal car review I'd read a mag or take a testdrive. As for TV.. just need to see the insane and silly bits please! One of the funniest programs on TV by a mile. Genius!! Clarkson's hillarious, and Hammond is closing the gap every week. He's damn funny too! Up and coming..

Tell you what though.. the Stig in that Astra Diesel.. that looked ace! Shows the car's good for it too! And still hats off to Ellen, she's ace!!

I wonder who will be the one that buys the Suzuki Liana, with rollcage knowing that it has spent it's whole life just being thrashed round the track ?

For Fifth gear turning a profit, Plato couldn't even buy a Ford Puma at auction and not know the clutch was knackered. On only thing good thing about this weeks 5th gear was the reaction from Tiff when he was almost sidewiped during the Camen test driver [:D]
