...My WHAT is here? My GTI? It is supposed to be getting built this week or next and it's here. Not here as in built. Not here as in the UK but here as in at the local dealers (have to be nice). I am simply stunned. This is way ahead of schedule and a great surprise. (I was thinking that I would be lucky to get the car in May).

Now the crazy thing is, I am actually a little bit depressed now. I ust found out that my insurance is going to be a fair bit more expensive than initially thought (not my fault before anyone says) and I am actually really scared about the costs etc involved. It has really hit home today. I am going to see it tomorrow after I sort out some insurance and will probably pick it up on Tuesday (unless I can get the insurance company to move really quickly).

Anyway, yes I will post loads of pics but it will have to be on my phone initially as my digital cam is kin-nackered. I am just so scared right now guys. (and excited)

Excellent news. I'm guessing this car is stretching your finances a little [:(]. I dont know anything about you, but I'm guessing your quite young so all I'll say is that your insurance will drop as you get older, and hopefully year on year your income will increse a little, so it should all become more affordable in the future.

Failing that, if your married, killing the wife (accidently) will get your mortage payed and you'll be able to go on the pull in your shiney and suddenly very affordable new fanny magnet! The cup is always half full![;)]

If all my assumptions about you were wrong your gonna be in trouble and my crystal balls heading for the nearest skip!

Some things I have found usefull in getting my insurance down.

Adding my wife to the cover cut ?100 right away, even though she is a vastly less experienced driver.

If your not a high milage driver tell them. They might cut a bit more if your only doing 8000 miles a year and not 30000.

If you have other vehicles, tell them. The more vehicles you drive, the less chance there is of crashing the one they are insuring.

If the car is parked off the road or in a garage tell them (little white lies dont hurt if they could be true) [;)].

If you tell them your only using it for personal use and not business this can sometimes make a difference.

Hope this helps. Its an awful feeling when your worried about money.

I put my mum on my policy as a named driver, that made a big saving too!

It pays to shop around for insurance!

I am waiting for my car, it is being built this week. I have had a quote for ?350 fully comp. I am 29. It was Norwich Union if all people. I am playing ?700 on my current GTI which is worth a third of the price of the new GTI.

Go out for a run or something, that will help!

Or better still, ring around as many insurance comapnies as poss. Follow andymac's instructions.

Same thing happened with my car, the dealer said it wouldn't turn up for a few weeks after it was built, two days later it turned up at the dealers! I hadn't sorted the insurance and it took Admiral 10 bl00dy days to get the cover note to me, so I can sympathise with your wait.

Sorry to bring more bad news to the table...it likes to drink petrol too! Not only that but it likes the hot stuff. Optimax seems to be more efficient than BP Ultimate though, by 5 or so MPG's so worth sticking to that.

Having said that, if you drive it like a pansie it's pretty fuel efficient, I was getting well into the 30's when running it in. The only problem is that driving it fast is so damned addictive!

Direct Line send it out the same day. It is easier to get a cover note from your current insurer and then do the work to get a new policy after you have got the car.

Sorry to sound like your dad, but did you not think to check what the insurance might be before you ordered the car?

Definitely ring around. I got a quote from my current insurer for a 2005 330Ci sport convertible, im 21 and they wanted ?3000 thats on mummy's name with 7 or more years no claims. Similar policy with directline is costing me ?1200. thats a saving of nearly ?2k. I then typed in a quote for an M3 Convertible but they said i had to ring up.

Ok I have typed out 2 long-winded responses to this but have typed in user name/password wrong twice. I will reply later on in full but basically - I did check but was misquoted by multiple companies on several occasions.

Bummer, unlucky.

When I was 22 I had a group 15 car that I was getting stupid quotes on after I'd had an accident; ?3000 was the highest quote I got! Eventually got a relatively sensible three figure quote from Admiral when all others kept coming out stupid. They tend to specialise in young male drivers so definitely give them a try.
