Been quoted ?135 inc VAT for a full 40k mile service at the non-VW dealer I bought my car from.

How good is that compared to the ?282 my nearest stealers quoted ???

OK I won't get a dealer stamp but we are gonna keep the car for years anyway !!

Hi Chris

Mmm sounds a little too cheap.

The oil is ?23 ish retail

Oil Filter ?4.00

Fuel Filter ?20.00 ish

Air Filter ?12.00

Pollon ?11.00

If it is petrol ?10.40 per spark plug.

It is a little worrying as this IS extreamly low.

Just to be aware of the pricings.

Cheaper is not always better

im about due for the 70k service.  Not sure if its worth keeping the vw history as the car is out of warraty. Cant really see it making much difference on the resale value! Does anyone know the price of a 70k service at vw by any chance?

That does sound to cheap to me, i have been quoted about ?90 inc VAT, for a 3yr/30 000mile service at a non dealer VW specialist and from what i have been told the 40 000 service is quite a bit more work.

Don't forget to make sure they use PD oil!

Afraid not.

These are Platinum ones that are in the 1.8T

If you put rubbish ones in you will be changing them again pretty soon.

Sorry

For this 40k service we would charge ?195.60 + VAT

This is using OEM service parts with the PD oil.

Our technicians are very good and will also carry out a full diagnostic check as part of the service.

Hi

You do not need to take your car to the dealers to keep up with the warranty.

Block Excemption 2002 did this.

You can take your car to anyone as long as they are VAT registered and use equal quality parts.

We always use OEM service parts as they are good quality.

The only thing we do not use OEM is water pumps as we have found that we can get some with the stronger metal impellars.

So VW service history would not really increase the value of a car .

Possibly make it more desirable , but when you hear about some of the troubles that people have with the dealers I myself would not really be too fussy about this.

Specialists can give better service as I have experienced.

Oh you've got me all worried now !! I love my motor and want it to be well taken care of all it's life !!

I did mention the 'special' PD oil and they assured me that they always use the correct oil for the car.

I suppose the receipt will list the exact type of oil used, but I would hope that I can trust they will use the right one anyway!!!

Ok

On a 40k service on a diesel you replace the oil , oil filter , air filter , fuel filter nad pollon filter.

How much does all that retail for?

How much is left for labour?

Are they using good parts?

Or are they going to lack with the labour?

Sorry but there is so much that can go wrong on a service that it would make me thimk.

Well it did that is why I had to post.

I may be wrong and the garage could be excellent.

Have you used them before or know of anyone that has.

Have you asked lots of questions in regards your service?

Did they ask about brake fluid?

That is every 2 years.

That would help with knowing if they know what they are on about.

I was a service manager for 5 years with a Skoda dealer I have heard some scary stories.

Just be aware.

Sorry dont want to scare you off , just be aware.

HaHaHa 41.60 for a set of spark plugs ???? wots going on there

I went to the VW main dealer and bought genuine parts last week and serviced the car my self. Here are the prices and part numbers remember these are genuine parts so they can be found cheeper but not as good quality.

To be honest id rather service my car my self as you never no whos working on your car or what they do or dont do or what damage they may cause. What puts me off is the way cars are driven at garages as they basicly turn the key and plant there foot into the floor.
