For once this thread is not about how to avoid the law but how best to adhere to it.

my mk2 is a 1.8 8v on the logbook, i want it all above board before I drive it on the roads and itll be insured for what it is aswell. Worked too long and hard on it for it to be taken off me.

So how do I do it? the logbook bit I mean?

if your swapping the engine, you have to put the new engine number on the log book then send it off

then tell the insurance what you've done, i was going to do this once myself on a escort 1.6, i wanted/had a 2.0 engine to put in but insurance was too much :(

i think thats all you have to do is just inform the people by sending off the logbook with the new engine numbers etc

I'd assume its just a matter of informing DVLA of the new engine details.

You will need to take it to a garage and get them to write a letter stating the new engine number, then you need to fill in the V5 document with the new engine number and send it off.

This should be enough, but they can also request that you get one of their engineers to check it, which will probably mean a fee.

I think you can find out what to do on the direct.gov website. Edit: ^^ that's the one!

I also thought, it'd probably be a good idea to ring them up, when i've had to deal with VOSA they've been very good on the phone. Makes a change [y]
