I will be looking for another golf in about 6 months. It will probably be a diesel pd130-150, however, there is the possibility of me getting a car to runaround in given to me by the place I work for (it's an ex blood courier Pauxhall Astra, and it will probably still have the cool art on the side of the car!!).

If this was the case and I was given the astra to do my work in, I think I would either be looking at the V5 or V6. So which has the better engine note? Bear in mind I have heard engines like these before, but never the actual VW engines themselves. I've heard loads of people saying the V5 engine note is real sweet. Comments people?

i have not driven a v6 but i have driven a v5 and the engine note is extremly addictive, problem is u always want to floor it! Makes my 1.8T sound pathetic, mind u the recent addition of an APR exhaust has livened things up []

Coming to inters? You can listen to mine, engine and exhaust is stock. Bloody fantastic noise.

V5 sounds very similar under load but less aggresive, and not as burbly at idle.

Unfortunately won't be making it to Inters. Dad's 60th so really gota do the family thing. I'll have to have a listen to them at some point though. Was playing around with my Dad's V6 today (ford though!) and I love the sound of it when you give it a nice sharp rev.

Ford V6s are also lovely. Think of a more burbly version of that IMO, it just demands full throttle

Cheers Mike. I think it's a case of hearing them for myself...heard the R32 but guess thats nothing like the 4motion even though they are both V6 VW engines because of different tuning. It might be that I have to go for diesel anyway, but I'll have fun trying them all out!

Very, very similar actually - IMO anyway, Id say its 3/4 the way there.
Its much quieter at idle, but the 3.2 in an R is based on the 2.8 lump
in the 4motion at the end of the day...

Well if they are very similar, the diesel will go straight out of the window! I LOVE the burble of the R32! If the4mo resembles that well, i'd have to have one and a runaround car.

That inside car sound clip sounds absolutely lovely! Realise that they have added extras! Diesel just can't compare. I'm off to do a search for some other sound clips, excellent stuff!

I'm a little bias, though must agree that the V5 engine note is very additive.

Oh my sweet.....!!!!!

Jetta V6 clips 2 and most certainly 3 got the hairs on my arms standing up on end! That is THE best sound I have heard for a LONG time! Nice one mike!!! Does yours sound like that? Though spose it's hard to tell from inside!

Number 3 is a dead ringer. Mines nowhere near as rumbly at idle as I
have the stock exhaust, but as he floors it off down the road, thats
the exact noise mine makes. As said above, people do turn their heads
expecting to see something special, and its a bloody Bora!

I'm looking at ebay now! It would have to be 2 cars though, runaround diesel and a V6, absolutely brilliant that was!
