Got my renewal notice letter from Elephant today. What a shock! It'd gone UP from about ?750 to nearly ?900!! I've no claims, no points, nothing!

So, I got onto their website and ran through a quote - imagine my surprise when it came out with a total of ?550! Got on the blower to them and read them the riot act until they 'matched' their online quote for my renewal.

So, watch out when you get your renewals chaps (and chapettes) - seems like Elephant are taking the mickey on the renewal and will only alter it if you kick up a fuss!

If your talking about a golf thats imported and insured with them then yes they do as it doesn't show up on their system as a recognised import the only way you will know is if you go to a dealer and its on their records as being an import

yer but what i'm saying is you could buy a golf and not even know it was imported and the insurance company would be non the wiser as they probally wouldn't even know. I nearly bought an imported one and couldn't tell the difference

both admiral and elephant have done that to me in the past! no with Bell Direct, who are also the same company! If u do a new quote with one of the other two companies it will be much lower! I did this, when admiral called me to tell me my renewal price i was like, wtf, bell want xxx, but they said they couldnt match it! oh well

Admiral wanted to charge me ?30 extra as my 4mo had optional leather trim fitted,"fair enough" i thought, its got to cost a lot more to replace if it gets nicked, then she said it was subject to a "standard parts" clause, which means if me trim gets nicked, theyll only replace it with cloth seats!! I refused to pay extra to get less back, spoke to "manager" and told him to cancel policy, send cheque back etc,he then decided to cover trim, rather than lose 650 quid policy! Just goes to show,if you dont question the buggers, theyll have you over! Bloody insurance companies!

That's not on at all. On the UK-spec V6 Golf (not sure about the Bora) leather was standard, and not an optional extra. You shouldn't have had to pay any extra.

I keep swapping between Admiral/Elephant/Bell, consistently nice quotes for new insurance, try it on come renewal time tho. Daft, but I suppose that many people just renew thinking that they were cheapest last time so must be this time...........

The worst quote I ever had was from People's Choice (I think?) ?3,313 - !!!WtF!!! - 'sa Golf, not Concorde!!!

golfv64mo,didnt have to pay extra in the end, only because i threatened to cancel policy though! Also, leather wasnt standard,i know most V6's have it,all of the demo cars we had at the dealer where i worked had it too,but several customers bought new 4motions that had cloth trimmed seats, very similar to 2.0 GTi trim. Must admit, didnt see any cloth trimmed ones when looking for mine,so they must be quite scarce.

The Mk4 sales brochure I have here says that the V6 4Motion comes as standard with leather interior, climatronic climate control and rain sensing wipers. I know that import, non UK-spec V6's don't have these as standard - perhaps the cloth trimmed ones you saw were imports? I know I looked at an import V6 before but I didn't go ahead with it because it had cloth seats and no climate control.

golfv64mo,cloth trimmed cars were direct from VW UK,we couldnt sell new imports. Havent looked at a golf brochure for a while,so cant comment, but these cars were definitely VW UK supplied, new vehicles ordered through an official uk dealership. Perhaps leather became standard for a certain model year, after these cars were ordered? Its the only thing i can think of? Ill have to have a look, now that youve said that,as i may have standard trim on a 2002 model, which means ill be on the phone to the buggers im insured with! Paul.
