Good / Bad ? I have received a favourable quote from them ! or are they a nightmare to deal with. They phoned me up at work after I did an online quote, but haven't made my mind up to commit yet, I offered to call them back, but the chap said he couldn't be reached by phone in his department .......a sign of things to come ?

I use them, very good with all paperwork turning up next day for me, changed my reg over with no problems and all paperwork fine, good with mods, easy to get on the phone.

Never had a claim though and thats were a lot of companies go bad!!

I like them. They were the cheapest quote I could get for my 1.8T. Very easy to deal with, have never been placed in a queue on the phone and are always helpful. But like LiQuOrIcE, I've never made a claim.

Once thing to watch out for is that they can really sting you on mods. For a chip on my car they wanted to double my premium !!!![:(]

Im using Elephant at the moment - gave me the best quote by far. Greenlight Insurance was actually £400 cheaper - but they requested a tracker to be fitted as mandatory (which would have cost me £400 inc a yr's subscription).

Greenlight are also better than Elephant when it comes to modding. Elephant in contrast wanted doubling of my premium when I asked about chipping my car (APR98 on the Anni)

They also wanted £180 for window tinting per year

£180 for brake upgrades per year (ie - performance pads, let alone Brembo brakes)

Needless to say I didn't do anything more to the Anni, and it was just another reason why I bought an R32!

Sounds encouraging then, although no one has made a claim. I'm with direct line at the mo, and they have been very efficient, no probs with changing details, reg nos etc, made a small claim over 3 years ago, no hassle with that either, but they want £120 more than Elephant.

Anyone tried 'playing' one off against the other to price match or get a price down, does this work ?

Check Elephant are giving you a quote for 12 months... they have a nasty habit of quoting for 10....

They are rubbish for Mods too..

I am insured through Brentacre, no complaints, cheapest quote I found and are very flexible on mods.

I was with Elephant for 2 years and my other half for a year. She had an outstanding claim when she moved to Elephant so they would not give her full no claims. When it was identified as a non-fault claim Elephant took a very very long time to refund part of her premium. They blamed the bank whilst the bank blamed Elephant. It took nearly 7 months to sort out. Other than that they were very good. I once E-Mailed then at 4pm one afternoon to make a change to my policy, at 7am the next day the new certificate arrived, very impressive.

For my 4motion...

Admiral - £576.75 with protected ncd, hire car and breakdown cover (6yrs no claims)

Elephant - £751.05 for exactly the same

All the forms were exactly the same, confirming they're part of the same group. How do insurance companies work lol. I'll never figure it out...

formoshun....that's interesting...my renewal with Bell is £507 (protected ncb, hire car, breakdown, full no claims, named driver), and elephant have quoted me £486 for a better policy (i.e. it permits myself and the named driver to travel to and from different places of work, as I occasionally have to visit our other offices for meetings), and it's full European Breakdown Cover, plus Homestart and Roadside. The other quotes I've received have been around £700. I'm gonna check Brentacre and Esure before I make a final decision.

Big lying ****ards !!

Great quote and service until you want to make a claim

Then it all goes west and their customer service becomes non existent

My V6 got written off last year. A few summarised details . . .

It took from the beginning of Nov until mid Dec to decide it was uneconomical to repair

Then they told me a load of rubbish saying that the claim was delayed as the DVLA was not giving them my licence details

I spoke to DVLA who said they'd never recieved any request so Elephant said they sent it to the wrong dept in the DVLA - yeah right, you deal with the every day and mine is the only request which goes to the wrong department, pull the other one !

From Nov until mid Jan when they finally settled, the claims handler never returned my calls or responded to any letters herself

The original offer they made me was £14,250, after a strongly worded letter about the DVLA fiasco they upped it to £16,500

If you want more information, PM me, I'd be happy to help or look for the thread entitled 'V6 Write Off'

Also, my premium went up 25%. Direct Line of all people are cheapest for me at the moment

Finally, I'm getting called every other day from the guy who bought my car from salvage, where did he get my number, Elephant, so now I going to have them under the Data Protection Act !
