Hi All,
As you know my 1.8T went in for its 60,000 service, M.O.T, Aircon service and recharge, cambelt change,Waterpump and tensioners and had been quoted ?700 all in. So I arrived promptly at the dealers for 07:30 bearing in mind that this specific dealer is a 30 minute drive from my house.
When I went to the service desk I was told that the m.o.t. would not be carried out as the 3rd party m.o.t. station which they use was shut for the festive period although they failed to tell me this when I booked the car in at the beginning of December(problem 1)I than was told that the courtesy car had an insurance excess of ?1000 so I could either run the risk or pay a tenner to waiver the excess for a bloody 1.2 Polo!!! (problem 2) I went out to the courtesy car and found the fuel light on and shortly after departing the garage it ran out of screenwash (problem 3). I got a phonecall message saying that the rear pads needed changing and that they needed the authorisation to carry out the work...fair enough, 2 phone calls to them later each time saying the service department were busy and would phone me back, but never did until I got a phonecall back saying that the car was all finished, I questioned this as this seemed a short period of time for the amount of work booked in. It turned out they had only carried out a minor(lube) service and done the aircon and that was it. By this time I was getting pretty annoyed. The lady on the service desk(who will remain anonymous) basically said they wouldnt do the cambelt, waterpump. and tensioners because it was all unessecary work and hadnt done the brakes as I had left the mechanics standing about (despite the two phone calls back!!) I demanded the correct service be done and than leave the rest and I would take it to another VW dealership before I could finish the conversation she put the phone down.....(oh dear!!). I went to collect the car and as I walked in and told the reception who I was this lady service advisor made a rude comment which will also remain anonymous as I have made an official complaint against her. The car was comming off the ramps when I walked in but she kept me waiting a good 20 minutes to give me the invoice before informing me the o/s cv boot is split and now not only the rear pads need replacing but so do the discs probably due to me running the pads so low I spose!! this is also bearing in mind a vw mechanic telling me last month rear pads had 8000miles left on them and ive done less than a 1000 miles since.
The sales team are disgusted with the way that I have been treated by this advisor and the service team and are taking my case to the branch manager as well this car was purchased on the approved used car scheme and needs all this work 4000 miles and 4 months down the road they agree this is not on and quite frankly is disgusting. So now I wait to hear back on what the dealers are going to do. The moral of the story is if you want to buy a car off vw of st.Ives than by all means go and see david or colin they are faultless at what they do, truly brilliant but if you want maintenence work completed...........
So should I have the cambelt etc done somewhere else or do what this 1 service advisor says and have it done at 120,000miles????(let me think!!!)
Rant over
Sorry chaps
