ok, I'm on a bit of a downer with my TDi at the mo, and need some cheering up suggestions

bought it standard and as its my first tractor I was proper bo chuffed with my circa 55mpg average on my commute. two months on this bloody forum and the modding bug bites, so 18 inch RS6's swiftly followed [:D]

now they are sweet as, but I can't help being disappointed by having to drive like a nun now to get over 50mpg on the same run. I know 50 is still great, don't get me wrong, but it ain't 55 now is it. i don't get that inner glow any more cos I know the car is capable of more...

sniff

Mine with standard wheels is showing (on a spreadsheet, not on the MFA) an average of 44.3mpg. That's since february this year, when I bought it, and reflects commuting, motorway work etc.

I think that's pretty good for a real world figure and, to be quite honest, I don't think that anything over 50mpg in a MkIV is sustainable for any length of time. Don't believe your MFA either, mines consistantly reads anything up to 4mpg over or under depending on it's mood....

My 320d has mfr figures that should be giving 49mpg as an average and it's doing 39mpg...

yeah of course I'm going by the trip computer, its the pyschological aspect of falling below or around the hallowed 50mpg threshold thats all!

my commute is 95% motorway and is cruise controlled at 80mph (more if I lie in!) and my fuel warning usually comes on around the 530/550 mile mark, something like that iirc

its just the drop off since my 18s were fitted has taken the sheen off my inner glow... [V]

think a nice ali re-trim will cheer me up tho [:D]

I'm with the 110 boys, i get around 40-42mpg and thats with the cruise set at 80mph. I know i can get loads better, 48-50 if i drop the motorway speed to 70mph and stop rallying to and from work but i just can't drive like that.

At that sort of consumption, i can afford to go fast.)

Your asking for blood, almost.Just lift off the right foot & watch it go up.

I get about 54mpg on my 35mile trip to work, I find around 80 give the best results on a long run.

Going to burnly via my bros on sat, about 340mile round trip so i shall see what that gives

I always get over 500miles to a tank before i chicken out, never had the fuel light come on yet! Think it might be bust, saying that i've never put more than 47ltrs in it.

Don't use cruise control, uses 5% more fuel!! thats got to be worth???uuurrrmmm, a bit!!

I've got a total average from when i got the car, and it's hovering around 47mpg(yet another muppet who's got too much time to play with exel). Although it does love the odd motorway cruise when for the trip it can shoot up to 55 - 60mpg.

I'm still not getting the 75mpg that my polo 1.4tdi did though!! now there's a cheap car to run!!!

My TDI will do over 650 miles on a fully vented tank and is running 17s. (Golf TDI 110 with oettinger chip)

On a different note, my mk2 GTI 16v was swapped from 15s back to its original 14s today and is soo much more responsive, handles better etc etc, not to mention more economical.

For supreme economy, drive sensibly, and fit smaller wheels with low rolling resistance tyres.
