Steer clear matey... he wants you to pay more for an older car which is an auto?! There are better deals to be had if you are thinking of changing...

This Benfield by any chance? (Reason enough to steer clear!)

Ok, depends what you are looking for matey? Take it you still want a Bora yeah? Do you want more power, different trim options?

I would go for something tuneable, either a 1.8T or a TDI130/150 which you can revo/your choice of tuner here later on.

Well, sounds like an 1.8T might be the baby for you [;)] Very tunable should you wish to go down that route, but also kicks out enough power standard to put a smile on your face [:D]

If Golf guise, you'll probably want to look at a GTI, however, this might cause you problems with your insurance (i.e. sky high price) whereas with the bora the premium would be a bit lower.

Here's a few I found on the VW website (not local I know, but Benfield/Pulmans should be able to get hold of anything on the dealer network)

golf or bora want something a bit more "fun" to drive.

once had a tdi as a courtesy car.tho quick, didnt like the noise and vibration..so prefer petrol engine.

Faster, rarer (147 sold), better equipped, newer and cheaper than that Golf...if engine noise and Boras are your thing, this is the car for you.

Bora

This one has the 15" Jarama alloys though. I'd only consider it if upgrading to 17/18/19's pretty much immediately. They won't fetch as much selling 2nd hand, but would be good for winter wheels [!].

There are certainly some real bargains to be had in V6 4M guise. I can't believe some of those prices. If consumption isn't an option, they are very nice cars.

I went from a Bora 1.6SE to this and my insurance (at 21 with 4 years NCB)was ?750 FC with Egg insurance. Im now 22, coming up to 5 years NCB and recently got a quote from Esure for ?396 FC. Sainsburys Bank, Churchill and Directline all quoted similar figures.

Pah, common as much those V6 Boras [;)] If only I didn't get made redundant, I would have a 4mo by now... [/sigh]

See those prices Mike? Straight swap for your diesel they are! Thats the only major downside to these cars - they depreciate while you watch

You forget Mike, we live in Newcastle... it's not very good for insurance up here [:(]

Yeah Chris said, that really sucks. On the plus side it may not be too bad on these. I am moving to London next week and if I insure it to my new address - which is a good area but has an SE1 (read - bad) postcode - its still only ?696 with Esure. Im gonna try and get Adrian Flux to come close though so I can have mods!

How about a Skoda Fabia vRS? Very quick with the 130PD engine and your budget almost stretches to a new one and definetly to a nearly new.

A few folks on here have them and love 'em. However if you need a car the that is Golf/Bora sized then a V6/1.8T/TDI Bora is a good bet.

It was almost a straight swap, but there was too much finance outstanding on my car [:(] and then the loan people decided to up my APR because the people who lived in my house before I bought it had a bad record.. grrr still trying to sort that now!

Anyway, got my suspension stuff now, keep Borat for a few more years, turn her into a track car when I get something else [:D][:D]

Sounds way expensive to me, I looked at a bora v5 manual 18 months ago with 25000 on the clock in silver alloys etc it was only 8900 then, it will not be easy to move on in 2/3 years time and I would also suggest that the auto v5 is probably gonna be VERY thirsty and probably not that quick.

I remember looking for mine (originally wanted a bora 4mot as golf was to expensive) and Mikedav talked me into having a bit of patience and the right car will come along I ended up with a 2000 4mot with all the extras recaros etc for only ?8700, you will get the car you want if you wait,

Try www.firstalternative.com for insurance they beat adrianflux by 300 quid for me, I live in Liverpool so my insurance rating cannot be better or worse than yours!

On a side note (dont want to upset you mike) A Liverpool private dealer has recently sold a X reg bora 4motion in red with cream leather and only 38000 miles for ?9000 (it also had some Vdub warranty on it) there are loads of deals out there these are now an end of line car and many leasing companies etc are ditching them for current models.
