I do about a 40 mile round trip to work every day and so really want a diesel. Turbo none of that sdi rubbish ;)

im only 20 and still an aprentice untill next august so cant exactly afford an anniversary or anything stupid. but what are the different options?

I would have said that a Golf PD130 (130BHP)was a good middle of the road choice.

Ditto. Not that we're biased tho!

Might hurt abit with the insurance - grp 10-14 depending on who you go to...

Leon 130 or Fabia VRs are worth a look as well...

Are you due to get your 2 years no claims any time soon?? I am 20 and drive a 1.8 A3 Sport. Was looking at the d's at the same time and found that you could easily get insurance on the 130PD without paying a stupidly high cost.

How about a Polo 1.9 TDi PD (100) Sport, like mine.

I think it great (albeit a bit girly). Handling is much better than 'standard' Golf and its quite chuckable. These latest shape Polos are pretty good cars.

Somewhat cheaper than an equivalent Golf (due to less of an image/status/icon).

Insurance is dirt cheap too.

Drawbacks: Its not a Golf. Its not as plush as a Golf.

im not keen on the bug eyed look of the new polo. looks like its trying to be a lupo and dosent quite look as good.

i would like the face lifted mk4 polo not sure if its called the mk5 of not but i dont think they do a 1.9tdi init. just the 1.4

I'm sure i heard about a 130 gt polo version coming out. However, if that were the case i'd give serious consideration to a Fabia VRs. Josh PoloGti could give you the low down on them...

Danny - If insurance costs are a concerning parameter at this moment in time then why not play on this to the point that when purchasing the car (presumably through a VW stealer), you state that you will ONLY make the purchase if they supply 1 years free insurance. Providing you do not kill it by requesting a free holiday in St Lucia plus a cuddly toy, then I?m sure it would be a cinch.

to be honest i cant rreally afford a car that they would throw in free insurance with.

but on the plus side i the company i work for also own a VW dealer so we get cars with quite a discount. sadly they come as seen no multi point check no approved warrenty etc. a guy from work got an 1600 off a 110 gttdi which is quite a large lump
