but, is it me, or do 1.8T's sound like a blo0ming diesel when you turn the key to start them up?

Yeah they all do it, there is 'Diesel type' clatter when u first start them.

All the 1.8T's sound like it whether it be a golf or TT. The new 2.0T GTI engine sounds like a diesel when you start it up as well

Get a Milltek turbo-back setup. Seriously it doesn't sound as nice a 6-cylinder car BUT it will rid you of the tractor noise upon start-up. Sad, but it is one of the principal reasons I went for the Milltek setup - to solely rid that "klat-klat" diesel noise. All 1.8Ts do it.

I had a whole bunch of mp3s where someone did a comparison. OEM exhaust, APR exhaust, Milltek Exhaust, Technics etc.. To be more precise, it was the downpipe that changed the start-up noise. I've tried searching for them again on VWVortex but they are gone. Sorry!

I've been told this on a few occasions, including tonight. And mine's a 1.4
