Does anyone know the reason why diesel is getting more and more expensive compared to petrol. At the moment it is around 7p /litre more[:(]

Now genuine reasons and no p1ss takers please. I have a petrol car too so am saving money using that but got cheesed off today filling up the golf.

That takes an chunk out of the fact it gets more MPG.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY!!!!!!!!!! Who makes these stupid decisions. Not so many years ago diesel was a lot cheaper than petrol, are they trying to recoup all that!

Seems to me that more and more people and companies are using diesel cars to save money and the government are now changing the goalposts on us and we need to do something about it.

I'm sure the truckers are geting annoyed about it too.

I know where your coming from on this, unleaded is about 76p now but derv is still 83-84p.

However I've seen it at sainsbury in Castle Vale Brum for 80p, just after I'd vented & filled up (62ltr) at morrisons for 84p[V], thats 2.48 I've waisted [:(]

Their scraping the 3% derv bonus on company cars soon too [V]

I noticed that too!

It's the supermarkets to blame, I've seen a Shell with 77.9 this week (reduced following the ASDA 3p off unleaded new) and derv at 83.9 unchanged since round one of supermarket fuel price war before Xmas.

Their price war has concentrated on unleaded for some reason - possibly because a shopping car is one that doesn't do a high annual mileage and therefore is more likely to be petrol powered?

Sainsbury have also reduced derv then? They are desperate to regain market share I guess!!

Lets not forget diesel costs less to make as its essential unrefined (the fuel not the driving experience!)

I think the reason that petrol has been reduced in price and diesel has not is because there is a worldwide glut of petrol due to over-supply at the moment. This is not the case with diesel. All to do with supply and demand.

Diesel costs ?0.90 in France and ?0.81 in Spain at the moment, as a comparison petrol SP98 costs ?1.01 and ?0.94 respectivly. So in the cheapest scenario filling up in Spain my diesel at a Shell station is costing me about 64p/ltr

The price of both petrol and diesel has dropped in mainland Europe, it's only the UK where drivers are being ripped off.

Makes me very angry.

It's a scam operated by the Oil Companies in conjunction with the government.

May not be too far from the truth, considerng they tax diesels more than equivalent petrol versions, due to a decision that they made,to make diesls "dirtier" tham equivalent petrol models.

So WHY do we pay less on road tax than the 1.4 and upwards petrol cars then?[?]

On one hand diesels are cleaner and the other we get stuffed, makes no sense[!]

So why did diesel prices increase with the petrol prices when the oil went up. Just another example of rip off britain. About time we kicked this government out!

Sainsbury's or Safeway yesterday announced they were reducing their Diesel price by 3p in line with the recent petrol reduction (citing it wasn't fair the darksiders were paying 6p a litre more...), if everyone fills up there for a couple of days the rest will follow suit (supply / demand).

As an aside the Government have held off the budget announced fuel rise as Oil thus petrol / diesel had risen sharply recently....as soon as it comes down low enough, they'll add their taxation on....

Jace, how do you vent your tank?

If you look inside the the hole on the left side at 9 o'clock (not the time, before some smart *** comments) position you'll see a small button, push it in to the hole while filling with the nozzle & get about 7-8ltr more in[^] Its good if your doing distance, not wise if your low milage though

I could do it on my polo as there was a little valve you could push in but I cant see anything like this on the Bora. You Should have one in there, mind you, most of us blokes have trouble finding the little button... LOL [:D]

I filled up again at sainsbury in castlevale, brum after going to star city this sav'vy, 80.9p [^], still wouldnt moan if went down to 76p though [:D]

On 09-01-05 when I filled up diesel was 83.9p, just now it was 80.9p - Same garage too. Can't complain!

Out of interest, is anyone available to tell me what shell garages stock the 'diesel extra' as my local only has the standard stuff, would like to give it a try.

It's always the same!Get everybody on a fuel type(Remember when unleaded was alot cheaper than 4star?)then slowly make it more expensive,If LPG gets popular wait and see the price of that rise!!

When it first came out down here LPG was 36p now that lots of people have it it is 42p

Soon it will start to be taxed to death like all other fuels, and think yourselves lucky Diesel is 85p here compared with 78p for unleaded.
