hellllllllllllllllll NO, i got absolutely mullered. 225bhp golf against a 197, who would of thought it.

so annoyed from about 70 - 80mph it just pulled away as if i was a 1.6 or something, i must say i am so dissapointed in the golf.

not sure if my car is boosting right or not as sometimes it will go right up to about 18-19psi and other times in the same situation it would only go to 12, just dont understand.

I encountered a friendly CTR on the M-way yesterday. After the
traffic cleared, from a 50mph rolling start I was able to dispatch it
fairly convincingly.

It was good fun tussle-ing with him over 20ish miles.

From a 90plus rolling start, there was very little in it
though. Im not too suprised that you found it hard from 70
onwards.

The Vtec comes into it's own at high end speeds

yeah but its still only 197bhp with the v-tech, how does it beat my car so easily im sure my torque would be more also. i think i could beat him 0-60 but on this stretch of road that was slightly uphill and went on for about a mile and a half he must had got about 200m in front of me.

I've had two forays as well with them.

Very close on both occasions and they couldn't pass. They have an
advantage in the fact that they are Six Speed and you can Rev the pants
out of them.

If we use our torque and they aren't ready then it is good bye Type R.
However if they are ready and in gear then it is another story and they
are in the power zone and they have that extra revs to play with until
changing gear.

I reckon a chipped ko3s with all the trimmings will have quite a large advantage.

I would say the Type R has the slight edge on my Revo AGU ko3. I'm
hoping the decat pipe and cold air feed will level it out a bit.

Still I can't help smiling at the stealth nature of a chipped 1.8 T....

Just don't crash, coz the lightened chassis which gives such a rewarding experince will also provide at long term stay in hospital!

They are super light cars truth being told i recently purchased a set of goodyear F1s for my car and almost every tyre place i rang asked what kinda car i was putting them on,i though this was a bit odd like you had to be in a special M5 club or something to be allowed buy them,so the next place i rang i aseked "Why?" when he asked what type of car,the reason he gave was because "I wouldnt put them on a light weight jap car, because the are too light and as a result they tyres wont perform right" nonsense or not i dont know, but something to think about, that an the fact that....

"My golf weighs a ton.........." ha ha

I have a AUM with all the trimmings and have had a tussel with a CTR before... they are quick little buggers! I wouldn't get past them but they also wouldn't pass me...  you need a bigger turbo to put distance on them....

The CTR is a very fast hatch, period. It weighs the same as a Ibiza and has a great engine/gearbox combo. In stock form they?re very even and slightly faster than a R32 on a straight line.

With a few mods (exhaust, modified intake and ecu) it starts to get very fast.

Even tough a remaped Ibiza TDI130 with ~170bhp can more than keep up with a lightly modded CTR (just exhaust), even from 100mph onwards up to top-speed. Just checkout this vid:

And while we're at it an exhaust+ecu modded CTR (~220bhp) is beatten accelerating and up to +120mph from just a "humble" Polo G40 with a few mods (modified pulley and a few more tweaks). Check out the vid:

You'll of course need a fast car to beat them. And just like Jeremy Clark once said, the CTR is a great hot-hatch on a straight line and also on the twisties, but at the end-of-the-day you'll just drive a.....Honda.... [:D]

The lightweight high reving v's the heavier high torque option has been around for years and having owned a CTR and now an AMD stage 3 R32 let me give you my take on it.........it just depends what mood you are in!

At the start the VTEC motor seems great but then jump into something that pulls harder lower down the rev range and life starts to feel so much easier, on the road I would always go for grunt, on the track definately a VTEC type motor.

A little off the thread but relevant I hope.

yeah when i had it remapped by jabba. i know we are unleasing the jabba rollers lie blah blah blah, but they cant be that far out as the before test showed 185bhp with a superchip which sounds right. not sure if my car is boosting right or not, sometimes it goes to about 18-19 psi other times it will only go to 12, it never goes above 12 in 5th gear does that sound right.

Bare in mind guys its not all about peak figures. So many of the engines come from different concepts to the others, so its not fair to say more power will well up to a point, be quicker.

The vid of the tuned 130 TDi Ibiza v the Type R give a false ideal. The type R is not under load alot of the time, just listen to it.

AFAIK the chassis won awards for saftey. Though that may have been only for when you hit a ped.

Just treat each car differently and use what your car has to your advantage.
