I called VW customer service last week to try to get a firm delivery date, well any delivery date really and was told again they cannot predict it until it goes into the first stage at the factory, until then still unkown, these seems a little rubbish to me, i ordered end november and would have thought and was told i would get the car by 1st march, which to be honest doesn't look very hopefuly, i am not sure if changing the spec on the system has knocked me down the list, is anyone aware of what happens if you ammend your spec after the dealer has added the car to the vw ordereing system ?, am i going to get the car sometime this year ?[:(!]

That's a high spec car you've got there which may have an influence, not that it should matter. Also the 18's were causing a delay at one stage, not sure if that's still a problem?

I'd be slightly intoxicated though if I'd ordered in November and wasn't going to see the car until after March, it's bad enough waiting until then from ordering in Jan.

A little off topic, but even _after_ my car has been manufactured and shipped from the factory, VW cannot give me an exact delivery date. It's all "we hope there's space on the boat and probably you will have it by the end of the week kind of maybe and who knows ?". I think VW could learn from the FedEx tracking system :)

not sure what i can do though, i have called the dealer and VW and both say the same thing, the car could be built any day now and when it does i can arrive a couple of weeks after that, seems odd to me they cannot tell when the car if likely to be made, i thought it might be the dsg, until i saw a dealer with a dsg car this weekend

Ordered mine last October and it's being built this week, in fact it's at checkpoint 7 (of 8) already - I've just checked with customer care! Your dealer should be able to give you a commission number and they should be able to check on their system to see if it's been allocated a build week. If they won't check, ring the dealership and ask to be put through the sales admin clerk and get the commission number from them, then ring customer care back, quote the number and ask if your order has been allocated a build week.

I ordered mine on 4/11/05 and they have given me a build date of the 3rd week of March which is pants. My spec isn't that high either I have ordered 18" Monza wheels, spare full size alloy, parking sensors, 6 disc changer and armrest, xenons, lux pack 2, winter pack. It seems to be a bit of a lottery as people that have ordered well after this are geting theres built already [:(]

I asked VW why people are getting rough build dates when they order, they told me you do not get any sort of build date until it starts to get built, the idea date is based on the dealer experiences of delivery for that model, they told me that they, for example allow more time for beatles as they come from mexico, and golf usually take max 3 months which is what they base things on, i check this with them twice and no build date is every availible until it gets the stage 1 of production, you may get your car sooner, WHO KNOWS ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN WITH THIS SYSTEM

I suspect they are still having issues with the 18's as my boss ordered at the beginning of November and is still waiting for a build date. She has the 18's and a lot of you guys with delays have them too...

It's pretty bad that VW can't be a little more specific with delivery times, it wouldn't be that difficult. Of course there would be slippages occasionally, but you think they would be able to give a date give or take a week or two.

And they say that German co's are efficient!

if they are having issues i wish they would keep us informed, my dealer keeps saying, should still be ok for march, hmmmm, he must know in his head the car will not be here by then, the dealers and / or VW customer service must be able to call someone at the factory and find out what is happening

I was due to have my car built in week 6, however, this subsequently got pushed back to week 20!!. I asked the dealer to explain why, and I was told that they are building all of the manuals first, and my DSG would be built with the rest of the automatics after the manuals.

The reason you have such a wait is probably due to the gearbox.

As I need to get a new car when my company car goes back in a few weeks, I decided to see if there were any other options to get a car quicker, and I was given 2 choices. Have one from the showroom (not the right spec) or amend my order and go for a manual.

As I am getting desperate, I agreed to go with the manual, and I now have a date of build week 10, which is a lot better.

I would say at present the delay is the DSG?

After the dealer has placed the order, the system should quite quickly show the order as being ?accepted?. At that point a build week is assigned (but subject to change) and it is visible on the system to dealers and customer care. About 2-3 weeks before the build week is reached, the order will go ?confirmed? on the system and the build week is then set and again, all of this is visible on the system. Once the car is in its build week it goes through 8 build check points, all of which are recorded on the system and which dealers and customer care can see. It then moves onto a number of other stages, including awaiting shipping etc. etc. all of which can be tracked by the dealer on their system, until it arrives.

My commission number has 6 numbers, has yours?

yes, 6 numbers, not impressed if they are doing manuals first, how many manuals are they planning to do, all of them ?, if people are placing orders every day i could be waiting some time !!. what a great system, and i was thinking that VW would be efficient !!

I have spoken to VW again and have finally got some sort of answer, all GTI's are delayed to some extent, it is unclear by how much per car, it seems the production line is busy building other golfs etc and they fit gti's in now and then, DSG could also be a pain or a blessing as they could all be done as a batch or left till the end, who know's either way doesn't sound too great for anyone !i guess the more pressure customers can put on the stealers the more they will hassle the factory and they will hopefully listen and put some GTI's through, the person a VW did say he has heard from a few people with the same dlivery issues on GTI's[:(]

Doc - that really sounds like a load of rubbish!! Who told you that? Stealer?

I mean, come on, "sticking a few GTIs on when they can". There is NO WAY that they are being so lax about a specific model like that.

I'd get onto your stealer and get some answers or else take your business elsewhere but that is complete and utter bull if you ask me.

Sorry to hear they're messing you around so much.

My stealer told me I could have one with whatever spec I liked in 9 weeks from ordering.

Irish,

VW told me that, to be honest i am at a loss about who to talk to, my stealer is a not much help and vw seem to be little better, not sure what is going on, it feels like they are not telling me something, i have a feeling that the DSG is holding things up but cannot find out for sure. I will call my stealer again today and tell him i need to know when it is comming to i can sell my existing car. I haven't bought a VW b4, not sure i would again if i base my experiences so far on VW customer service and dealer network
