Decat gt tdi 130?

Ive got a gt tdi 130 and ive got a few questions hopefully someone on here can answer!

Im looking to change from OEM exhaust, whats the best way of going about this on a budget? I need a decent back box, but with the oem pipes from the manifold, will they be ok or do i need a full system? Ive been thinking of decating by welding a pipe instead of the cat, any thoughts on this (with a decent backbox)? or will my car sound like a tractor?!

Any advice appreciated! Cheers, Ger.

custom made turbo back system, stright through, sounds very nice on the asz engine, not loud either untill you boot it, these guys make all my (and my customers) systems

i just got a decat and straight through pipe with a very small backbox, sounds the business, will get a soundclip at the weekend mate.

Emp performance quoted me ?320 for full exhaust system, with decat, decent price!

Do you mind me asking how much did it cost mate? Its just that im on a tight budget! Did you just pipe out your cat? Or pipe through from manifold to new backbox?

Cheers, Ger
I have a full turbo back system made by Milltek, the fit is quite good and it's a bit louder depending on how much throttle I'm applying. However it doesn't seem to improve performance much other than helping the turbo spin up a little sooner.

Maybe I'll get the full benefits from it once I have the car remapped, so I guess it depends on how far you're planning on going with your car and what budget. If you can be bothered to crawl under a car and fit it yourself then an off the shelf system might do you well, I did this and then had to take it to a garage for a mate to get some heat on the turbo to downpipe nuts as one was a bit stubborn!

If you are working to a very tight budget you could do as you suggested and cut out the particle filter, and also replace the back box with a straight bit of pipe. You will hear the turbo very clearly though and that's as free flowing as you can get. Maybe do the DIY decat first and see what you think of that alone, I think that's the larger blockage if I had to choose between the particle filter and backbox.

how much did that cost you?? im looking for something like that and downpipe for mine then get it mapped.

i tried persuading the mrs for a 'joint' valentines present this year and she suggested a full miltek system with downpipe. i agreed then told me to p1$$ off and do one. :(

Cheers for the info! So to recap your suggesting diy an replace cat with a bit of pipe and back box to start off, and once i save ill get a full system!
if you can weld then cut the cat out and replace with a piece of pipe. and then replace the back box with a stainless one if you can.

thats all i have done with mine and it sounded no different untill i got it mapped and it roars from 3-4k (not to loud but a little better than standard)
Hi danny i have a de cat for a 130 its a original pipe with cat cut out n a bit of bent pipe welded in im selling it for ?30. A friend who works at a vw breakers sold it me thinkin i had a pd engine. Me like a wally didnt check it against mine so i had it de cated came to fit it and it was wrong lol
kurt im not in need of one as that is what i have already done but someone else might be.

I got the cat cut out on mine then got a stainless steel system all the way through to a very small backbox and it sounds so much better!

You got a big backbox taking away the sound?
its bigger than i would like around 3.5inches exit but it was free from a car at work so i dont mind.

i'm talking about the actual size of the box, i've only got one very small box at the back,

Any soundclips of yours?
its not as large as standard but i would say its above average.

not got any sound clips and wont have untill its got a new turbo strapped on.

its near silent till 3.5k then its quite nice sound. only makes noise under load. it sounds like a mixture of sucking in air, rasp and whistle.
