Hey, that's pretty good! Hard to tell from the photos and the [vague] description the actual extent of the damage; if it goes for <?8500 that could be a good little project there!

Edit: If there is slight chassis damage - I've heard it can be put on a machine and straightened. The only thing that would concern me would the endless amount of rattles and squeaks the ?whole? car would give off once the repair was complete... Queue big ICE system! lol

Putting a car on a jig to straighten the chassis does work, nut its never 100% sweet. As you sat, rattles, panels not fitting spot on - it can cause endless problems throghout the cars life.

Been there, got the T shirt.

What a shame! But hold on if this price is true at around ?6,000 then it can't be. If the engine is still hasn't been damaged then the engine by itself is worth that surelly! [:O]

So if you ask me if the engine is fine then i'd go for it but again got to be sure of how and who is going to give you a hand rebuilding it.

i say ask Jearome *** (dutch tuner) find there details in any performance vw magazine. the only trouble if they can rebuild it for you then you might have to ship it accross to holland! [B)]

but what a shame whoever's car it was...

That isd a bargain at less than 12, thousand, I could get it jigged for around ?250 I would then panel the dront end myself at around ?600 and then have the front/roof resprayed for about ?400,

Engine wise I would replace the sump, fill her with oil and see what happens, check the oil pressure with vag com, the state of the engine depends on how long it was ran without oil for I reckon it should be ok, if it wasnt I could have the big ends replaced and the crank reground for less than ?1000

Right who can lend me 10 grand

its been written off for a reason yes the roof it is hard to get a roof straight and strong a distorted roof would allow the car to fold like a deck of cards ,this is only a cat d and could be fixed cheaply, but you would have to declare its status at point of sale

You only have to disclose it's previously been written off if asked.

hmm, judging by that big hole in the front, looks like it's hit something pretty hard which

will have carrie on into the engine. If there's a hole in the sump, then it will have been

created when the engine was running. Bet there isn't much useful left of that engine.

New R32 engine plus chassis straightening is probably the reason for write off.

Shame really, lovely car.

Gerard and I were thinking of halfing for it and making it a track car[:D] Would be great fun for the track day at Knockhill[^] Only thing stopping us is the little matter of cash[V]

Was it your mates Laura? if it did land in a field would think the damage wouldnt be too severe being a softish landing. I put a hole in my sump a few months back and it cost ?240, although dont like the sound of mechanical damage.

I went through a fence and into a field last January in my tdi. 5 grand was needed to put everything right (on insurance), so its not cheap. there was no roof damage on mine, the guy said if there had been roof damage it would have been written off.

It has not nescacsarily been written of for a reason, many company policies have an agreement to just replace any vehicles that will cost more than/or take longer than a set time to fix

do you think the roof the front end and poss engine are not a reason to write this car off?
