This is the one i converted for Dan way back......he had the light primed and sprayed but ballsed up the switches.....by spraying them.

The second attempt - he used tiny round circle stickies and put them over the icons to affect a masking off - you will still see the white bit around the icon under the circle after removing the masking.

@ ADH - Thanks for the link. Looks like they only do the sunroof version of the switch. Here's another thread with more info http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1908639

So what will be the best way to mask over the small icons to ensure light from the switches still shines through?

You're welcome. I recall reading that they'll do their process on customer's own items, might be worth an Email?

Masking - clear adhesive plastic and a sharp scalpel. With a very steady hand.

I have done similar stuff to this on my mates car we used something called liquid rubber and got it from an artcraft shop its a liquid you can apply with a small art brush andthen leave to dry and once dry it is like a thin layer of rubber then you can spray what you need to spray and then when paint is dry you just peel off the rubber and you are left with your nice neat switch icon and black housing hope this is of help tabs[:D]

Got my W8 this morning (cheers Shaq!). I've taken it apart, and isolated the buttons, would it be possible to seperate the clear plastic backing pieces from the button shell?

Looks to me like they are glued inside but should come out. If they can then it will make the whole task of spraying them a lot easier!

Keep us posted mate, if you can remove the red illuminated bits prior to painting then I think i'll have a crack at this mod myself.

It looks easy'ish - the buttons themselves just have a small clear plastic inner thats glued in on several places. I might just dremmel the thing out and glue it back in after I'm finished.

Will keep you posted!
