Hi Spin,

That is looking good. Did the bodyshop that did the spraying for you
just paint the parts that where already on the car? How much did it
cost? As I am looking to have something similar done to my Silver Gti
when it arrives in November, except I am going to leave the recess
around the exhaust unpainted.

This looks fantastic ........one of the main reasons I picked black was that in some colours the skirts and rear valance don't look good for a ?20k car.  Why on earth VW don't do this as standard I don't know, as per usual cost I expect.

It's also one of the things that differentiates the new R32 from the GTI.

Not really sure about the process they used as my car was originally ordered as the dealership manager's demo until I talked them into letting me have it (long story) - on close inspection it looks as though the coding was done with the bits off the car as all the surfaces have been smoothed in places which would be difficult to reach, they did attempt to charge me an extra ?300 for the paint job but this was renegotiated [;)] They used their own bodyshop so the ?300 quoted may relate to an inter-departmental cross charge rather than what they would actually charge the customer?!

Thank all for the compliments, I too was unsure about steel grey until I took delivery (original order was for Diamond Black) but I am now very, very happy [:D][:D]

Looks great - but the fact that a brand new ?20k car has to go in to the body shop on day one to bring it up to the standard it should be presented at in the first place is outrageous. If you look at other manufacturers the dreaded black plastic disappears early in the model line up and on cars half the price of the GTI.

It was never my intention to start a discussion on wether the GTi looks better colour coded or not [:$] I think they look equally cool either way, I like the retro look of the black plastics and would have been happy to take delivery of the car in standard form but the work had already been done- the thing about the GTi is it's like a good woman, each day you find something more to love about her[:D]

Having seen the Steel Grey's in flesh a couple of times, and not being impressed, doing that colour coding has actually made a MASSIVE difference (in my humble little opinion).

They are the best pix I've seen yet of a Steel Grey jobby, and I'd love to see it in person!

Excellent result mate! [Y]
