Hi Folks,

I have a Sept 02 150TDI Anniversary model with 102K on the cIock. Yesterday I was driving along a road in the village when the clutch pedal remained stuck to the floor when changing from 1st to 2nd. I ended up slowing down and stalling. I had to pull the pedal up by hand and then restart the car. It was OK for a few miles and then did the same again. Today it is doing it every fifth or sixth gaer change and I'm having to flick the pedal up with my toe.

I'm guessing it is a hydraulic problem but am not sure if the clutch has a separate cylinder to the brake cylinder as I've checked that and the fluid is within the max/min level.

Any ideas on what the problem is and how much it might cost to fix ??

Cheers,

Steve.

yeah sounds like the master cylinder...its normally worn out b4 102k so be thankful...i had mine replaced regardless the 1st time it done it ...i dont think its to expensive a part and the labour aint a lot either.seeing as you are out of warranty a normal garage could do this using VAG parts..so dont worry to much.

that's weird, I had the same problem on Sat, went shopping, came back to car...started her up put foot on the clutch pedal ....went staright to the floor. Tried to pull it back up and crack, two peices came flying out.

Got my mechanic to come out and it was the pedal, metal part broke which held the pedal up and in place....

Sorted now... be warned it may happen to you....[:O]

Thanks for the replies and advice. Much appreciated.

Contacted the stealer today and they can't see me until Friday. I have no apparent loss of fluid and everything else appears ok. I had a hell of a journey to work this morning due to not being able to change down at lights, junctions etc. Could only s elect first after coming to a complete stop.

On way home tonight I switched aircon off completely and whilst it didn't cure it completely, the gear changes became a lot smoother and the clutch pedal did slowly spring back up.

I know this is stupid but is the aircon unit linked with the clutch hydraulics in anyway ?

Just hope it keeps going until Friday !

Cheers,

Steve.

Took it into the stealer on Friday.

Master and slave cylinder need replacement as does clutch and flywheel. Bill is just under ?1050. Good job the lease company are paying !!

Is 102k about the norm for a clutch ??

The car is to be replaced in Sept and I can buy it with a twelve month unlimited mileage warranty. It has full service history and the bulk of the mileage has been on the motorway. Any ideas what a 52 TDI anni with circa 110k on the clock might be worth come Sept ??

Picked up my TDi 3 days ago (52 reg) and after standing in the cold last night I found the clutch pedal stuck to the floor this morning as i started it up. I managed to scoop it back up with my foot and it's been fine for the rest of the day.

I've searched on here and there seems to be mixed opinion that it's nothing to worry about and is usually a one off or that it's the start of something breaking.

Anyone got any definitive ideas??

No you would not possibly have to go through a dealer.

This is something we have carried out.

Did one a week or so ago.

This came to about ?140.00

But I have known some to be a bit tricky in bleading after.

But get quotes you never know.

I had the same problem last night....

Driving along, went to change gear, and the clutch wouldnt come up, it felt very strange, i had to pull up, and raise it with my hand...

It seems Ok now, after i "pumped" it a few times, but it still feels a little limp... (maybe needs a VW Viagra injection)

my car has only done 19K miles, surely the clutch cant be gone already!!!
