I have a GT TDI 115Bhp with Climatronic which I don't think is working properly. Correct me if I am wrong but the whole idea is that it should be automatic Climate control and should keep the air temperature inside the car constant at whetever it is set at? Well when in Auto mode the blower will come up to around four and then it just sits there, doesn't slow down as the temp increases, I have to slow it down or switch it back into econ mode where I generally keep it and operate it manually anyway.

I didn't realise there was a problem until I was in a friend's Audi and even in econ mode it with increase/decrease blower speed to keep the temp constant, mine never does this. I am even wondering if perhaps a previous owner has had it set to a diferent mode of operation but if so I don't know how to alter it, any idea, maybe Vag-com?

I would appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

no help to you really but my golf and the wifes auto adjust speed of blower etc. Sounds like yours is faulty.

mine automatically adjusts the speed, aswell, get a hoover or fine duster, and clean the air sensor on the bottom right or left hand side of the climate unit, also plug vagcom in and there is a full section on the climate unit, so any faults will be held there ,for you too see.

sorry to hijack for a minute, but, what does it mean when the ECON or AUTO disappear by pressing ECON button twice for instance.....what setting is it in?

Econ means economy and dosent use the air condition part where as auto should keep temp at the set degrees with the air condition pump working which means a bit lf lag when driving up hill as it uses more power

So does that mean in econ setting its not using fuel like it would when you have it on normal?

Yep thats the idea but you also wont get the benfits during the winter of it removing the moisture from within the cabin. also remeber to fire up the aircon once a week for about 20 minutes

or the seals in the aircon system can dry out causing the system to leak and stop working...

AFAIK ECON just has the fan on with no A/C at all. It's just like an ordinary blower on a car with no A/C.

yes you must use your air con every week to stop the pump messing up, I had the linkage which engages into engine for air con collapse cost ?1000 lucky still under warranty, also every 3 years your supposed to have it re-gassed cost about ?60

I read the manual last night and I think I may have a problem right enough. The only thing is I have mine set to 24 degrees where it recommends 22, I will try it at 22 and se if it makes a diference but I have my doubts.

The only thing it says you can adjust is whether the read out is in farenheit or celsuis, you press and hold one button and then press another. This got me thinking about another post I read where you could get your digital readout to display the current speed of the vehicle in miles per hour by doing somthing similar. I also remember my wife had a seat which had air-con probs and the mechanic found that there were about 12 different modes it could operate in, he recconed for different climates, ie hot/cold countries depending where the car was to be sold.

Does anyone know therefore if there are ways of re-programming it to operate differently as usually these digital thingys are capable of much more than the manual will admit to or than us ordinary folk are supposed to be able to cope with. By the way I don't have Vag-com, good at ideas, less good at having the relevant equipment.

does anyone know if theres a way to shut of the climatronic with just one touch ? I have to hold down the fan button until it eventually shuts off which is damn annoying.

This means that the air con is on because Auto keeps it a constant temp and econ turns just fans and not the air con unit if you know what i mean
