Simple question, which is better, Climatronic or standard Air Conditioning?

I've had both, on the Golf (climatronic) and Bora (manual), and for me Climatronic every time. I gate having to fiddle around unnecessarily. My Merc has climate, obviously. In comparison, the Golf's is very good! But not better.
ive climtronic and the wife has manual, i hate her car its ether too hot of too cold. if youve got it on your face or feet then the window wants to mist, put it on the window and your feet freeze

the bora sits around 22 degrees more of less all the time and as soon as the engine has a little heat thats it
ill take manual all ay long (on the mk4 anyway) the mk4 climate has so many bugs and non problems its unreal. i have had both climate and manual and find nothing difficult about having to twiddle a dial once, maybe twice.

In general i love climate on other cars. would pick it over manual just coz it looks better inside the car.
One of the reasons for the comparison is that I saw this earlier. As previously stated, I am looking at doing a "sports-limousine" type thing with my Bora, so luxury is paramount. I'm also looking for a bit of a project...
What Gman said, apart from when a stone went through my air con condensor I've had no trouble at all from my manual air con in nearly five years and 50,000 miles[<)].

Chris.
i wish i had climatronic too am either too cold or too hot but having to twiddle a dial once in a while doesnt bother me..my answer is if you want to go for the limo sports style get the climatronic

Manual FTW!
Fan fault thread?

@ rOck_oN: One of the factors will be maintainence. If Climatronics has bugs, or is ludicrously expensive to repair when it does break down, then I may not bother.

And the reason for looking for a reasonably complex project is that a new (long term) job application I'm working on requires me to have an active or past technical project I can demonstrate.
I find in the standard even if you have the temp set to centre "12 oclock" it still eventually gets like an oven and you gotta constantly adjust.

Climate control is self explained i guess its contantly adjusted and maintained to keep an exact temp.

Climatronics can bugger your engine? That sounds.... naff, to say the least.

Thats a problem with the resistors, nothing to do with climatronic or manual, it happens to both.

Climatronic everytime, less messing more comfort. And they dont go that wrong, its only more sensors and little motors basically
Our Golf has done 149,600 miles since we bought it new in 2001. Only work needed has been a seal replacement and re-gas.
Ok then, looks like it's too subjective to say that one actually is better than the other. Those with climate will of course say climate is better and those with manual air con will of course say it is better.

At the start of a journey when it's cold outside I turn the hot/cold dial to fully hot and put the blower speed on max. Then about ten minutes later when the cars nice and toastie inside I turn the heat down to about a third up from cold and the blower on 1 or 2 and leave it there for the duration of the journey,no constant fiddling needed.

For me manual air con works just fine and I've never had the desire to change it to climate control and I'm sure most people with climate feel ther same about their own system.

sums it up nicely...I have climate in my mondeo and you stillm mess with it, so its not set and forget by any means. I just think cosmetically it looks great compared to 3 big knobs( calm down ladies) but I can cope without climate control

Like I said, I had both, and jumping into the Golf with climate was great. And on long journeys, through widely varying ambient temperatures, the cabin stays the same. I also found the recirculate feature far, far better in the Golf, which is handy when a stinking lorry or Peugeot taxi pulls out in front: the Bora always took its time blocking the exhaust smoke, the Golf was instant.
Well like I say, I'm looking for a technical project at the moment, and the climatronics conversion would definately fit that, but I was wondering if there were any major advantages of one over the other. Project or no project, the car is my daily, so ideally I'd like to get something out of it (other than a job, of course).
