I'll be ordering a new 2.0 TDI in the next couple of weeks, but I dont know which colour to go for and I'm finding it really hard to choose as the are so few photos about of Mk5's that arnt silver, black or costal blue! Does anyone know of a web site that has pics of mk5's in all the different colour variations? I'm sure I'm not the only person having this problem. Do you think mk5 owners on here could compile a gallery with all the colour variations? Might not be possible but would certainly be useful I think.

I have looked at the VW site and their virtual colour s elector is useless. Looks like something done in "paint"!

Have a look through the members ride section and you'll see plenty of Mk5 pics in different colours.

from the ones i have seen in the flesh so far both steel grey and laser blue have stood out. coastal blue looks terrible in the flesh.

red looks ace on the gti but not really on the standard one. (i am waiting on my red gti)

saw a white tdi which looked wicked - not sure if you want to go that retro though!

for the tdi i would go steel grey

Looks nice KuniD, much cleaner than the blue graphite car at my dealers. Your just down the road from me in Hastings! I have seen a pic of a steel grey, and seen one briefly in the flesh and it does look very smart!

There may be a lot in there but its impssible to sort them out from the many Mk 4's. We need our own section.

Steel grey is a great colour in my opinion. If I was getting a 2.0 TDI, I would definitely get steel grey.

Hi. Doesn't your local dealer have cars in stock you can look at. I was thinking of a MK5 the other week and want to the nearest agent and they at least 30 Golfs on their site, either new or nearly new (pre-registered?) and they had most of what I consider to be the interesting colours in stock. Had I decided to buy a MK5 I would almost certainly of gone for Steel Grey. Andy

My first mkV was steel grey. Although it looked great if it was sunny it looked a bit drab when cloudy or raining. I'm glad I changed to black.

Colours I really like are:

Black (solid & metallic) - solid looks best when properly waxed

Laser Blue

Blue graphite

red - but would only have this on a GTI

ShiftyDriver, that looks great. And you probably got the colour coding and upgraded alloys for the price of metallic paint. Well, perhaps not - but I think its a wise move, paint is only one part of the appearance. My Mk4 GTTDi was in flash red - but then allowed my budget to stretch to the Sport Pack (16s and sports suspension) and a 6cd changer in dash. Best compromise - and Golfs look good in red!

Unfortunately its not mine! Its the new domonstrator at the garage and wont be for sale for 3 months. But with the Estoril's, front valance, colour coded rear valance and mud flaps (seem to make it look lower) I thought it looked excellent. I thought only GTI's would look good Tornado Red, but now I'm converted. Did think it might also look good exactly the same but in black. Think I'll order one this weekend if I make a final decision on the colour, probalby the external spec, with the centre arm rest and possible the highline computer if someone can tell me what the difference is over the midline. The salesman couldnt!

Did you choose / order your car in the end?

I have a similar problem - I have an option on a new GT TDi - but I am not allowed any cost extra's (ie Metallic / Pearl paint; Interior packs etc).

I have seen a lot of Black motors around - which do look good - but I imagine they would be a pain to keep looking quite so sparkling... so was veering towards the Red (I think the other options are Blue and White - not too keen personally).

The picture you have posted - is that "As standard" or have there been some additional colour codings added?

Sorry to butt in! The red car in the pic has extra coding on the front and rear valances. The rear one prob makes the biggest difference. Shifty went for the red one in the end (with the Estorils) and collects later this month.
