Can you remove the door module without disturbing the glass?

To replace the drivers door lock module, to remove the inner regulator carrier panel with the lock module attached, does the glass have to be removed or can the glass be left alone? From reading the guides from searching, I'm not clear if I have to mess around with the glass. Obviously as the window regulator carrier is being removed, I assume the glass is going o have to be supported in some way? Once the carrier panel is removed am I correct in saying the window will be free to fall?

Thats probably why in the guide I found they duct taped the glass up to the door frame, but I just want to confirm this before I tackle this job.

Can anyone tell me this?

Remove the window before unbolting the carrier panel mate, wind them down about 1/4 until you can see the bolts in the two rubber holes on the window regulator panel.

Two screws to loosen slightly (either 10mm or t30) but be very careful as the clips are prone to snap, then the windows will tilt out quite easily.

I wouldn't use duct tape, it's much easier and safer to just remove the window.

You will need a M-8 XZN for the door lock module.

Good luck.
ALWAYS ALWAYS remove the glass,It takes mere seconds to do this.It actually makes more work if you leave it taped in place......

Cheers for the link, I see it is actually easy to take the glass out so ill do that. Its the door lock module I'm replacing / fixing, I see that guide is more towards the window regulator, I don't have to remove any of the regulator assembley do i, can I remove the complete regulator carrier panel as a complete assembley without stripping down the regulator parts.

Also, can I get your opinion on what you think my problem is most likely to be, the cracked solder joints issue or the micro switch? When I open the passenger or drivers door or boot on my 3dr 2003 golf, after 10seconds the car locks itself with the doors/boot still open unless I put the key in the ignition.

Also, when I close all doors and walk away from the car, the car also locks itself.

Cheers for the advice.

You have to remove the inner door skin to get to the lock, the window regulator itself won't need to be touched.Does the puddle light work on the affected door?
Yeah, taking the glass out is nowhere as daunting as it sounds. Easy job that takes about 5 mins... Unless the retaining bolts have been rounded off by a previous owner like mine =/

Cool, good to know! Its actually a commercial golf van so i dont seem to have an actual puddle/footwell light but I have the centre roof lights set to the door setting and when I unlock and lock the car with my fob them lights come on and go off ok. I forgot to say aswell when the car locks itself with the doors open this also triggers the alarm if that helps point towards a component.

If it relocks even if a door is open,it doesn't know the door is open so almost certainly has to be the switch. If you sit in it and let the interior light time out, does it come on again when you open the door?
I attempted to fix my rear passenger door lock, i like an idiot went to take the aluminum inner door card off by undoing the bolts then i undone the window regulator as i thought thats what was holding the door card on then suddenly the wire cable that pulls the window up & down unravelled (GULP)! I thought i had killed the thing & i was no nearer to getting the card off lol, luckily i managed to get the cable back on the pulley & back together.
I gave up on trying to fix the lock module !
So DO NOT undo that pulley part as that is supposed to come off with the door card as one piece once the window is out as i found out when i looked up the how-to on youtube.

Just got a chance to check this now. Yeah, the interior light does come on again when I open the door both with the key in the ignition and with the key removed.

The switch must be working then for this to happen.

So does it look more like the module itself then to be at fault?
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for about five minutes?
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for about five minutes?
I havnt done that specifically, would that help? This is going on a long time now as in over a year, i fixed the bot wiring and fitted a new genuine boot lock module during that time and sort of lived with it, but I'm sure I would have had the battery disconnected for other reasons at various times during this time interval and dont remember it making any difference.

Maybe its the passenger door lock module, it happens with either door open, seems stange that the 2 doors modules are acting up.
It's worth a try,sometimes it makes a difference.
