You need to put a series resistor in line with the lighting wire,but you'll have to measure how much current it draws before you can use Ohms law to work out what value resistor you need.

can i dim the display down any more?
basically i have installed a new boost gauge which dims down by 30% with lights on, is there any way of making it dim any more as its slightly too bright.
