Anyone here know of a place that supplies and fits the cam belt for cheaper than ?350? Been advised that mine needs doing as it has been 4yrs.

also had anyone ever put on the lightened pullies whilst having this done? any issues with vibration etc?

Thanks

Rob

Midland VW did mine on a PD150 including water-pump, tensioner and 60K service for ?400. Should be cheaper for just the cam belt.

I would have thought so, ?350 for just the belt is a rip-off! You really should get the waterpump etc changed at the same time as they are common faults.

Is ?350 including a service too?

Deffo have the waterpump changed at the same time as the cambelt. I didnt change mine when I had new a belt and tensioners put on, and the pump gave up the ghost a fortnight later!!!! ;which meant it all had to come back off again[:'(]

just spoke to the stealer and they only replace the belt, nuts and bolts, tensioner and mouting bolts. if the water pump looks like it needs replacing then they do that as well but its an additional cost on top of the ?350 !!!

Dont sound surprised, this sounds about right if vat included

The parts alone probably amount to about 100, and most dealers are on ?60 per hour, and 4hrs is about right for job.

I have just got a quote on the parts for this job from VW for a 1.8T.

The timing belt kit (which includes tensioners and rollers) is ?88

The water pump is ?30. There is a ?25 surcharge on tthe water pump which you would hope they have accounted for.

These prices are at RRP include vat.

Add the job time at a normal VW labour rate and you can see how the job is ?350.

I will be getting a reputable IMT to fit the parts for me which should redure the bill by over ?100.

Didn't you say this was a VW specialist and not a dealer? I got a 60K service + Timing belt/tensioner/waterpump all in for ?400 at Midland VW. Seriously, ?350 for just a timing belt is taking the pi55!! And, even if the waterpump looks ok it should still be replaced. It's should classed as a consumable when changing the timing belt

Just booked my 1.8T into an independant specialist for its 60K service and was going to come on to ask about, lightened pulleys or any other OEM components (part of this service) that could be swopped out for somthing to give me a little more oomph!

Thanks in advance

Im glad this thread was posted as i was just about to post the same thing.

What about using a Skoda dealer as ive read from doing a search on cambelts?

And do any of you know any reputable independant guys, or Skoda dealers near the Darlington/county durham area?

Last but not least - to show my technical ignorance :p why is changing the water pump important at this interval? Cheers!

yep. im just on 46K but it has been 4 yrs.

some more prices. Storm develpments in Aldermaston (basingstoke area) ?352 including belt, tensioners, bolts, water pump, coolant and fan belt!!

Fontain Motors langley - ?525 same as storm but no fan belt !!! I know Midland VW is cheaper but i live in Thatcham so the petrol would cost me about the same.
