Well... the postman arrived this morning with my Miltek Sports cats... (thankyou VW Speed. Excellent service[;)])

I rang up a local tuning company and they said they could fit them for me today[:O]

So I went over a 1o'clock. They had them fitted in 1hour...

The car sounds fantastic!

However my old Standard VW cats are completely destroyed and falling to bits inside! (took them to my dealer and they will replace under waranty! They are priced at ?846 +vat[:O], and I dont need them! I want to exchange them for a lifetime service but they cant do!)[:mad:]

So anyway... back to my story, I got the car RR on their nice new 4wd RR....

277bhp!!![:D]

They ran it again.... 277bhp!

Bl00dy fantastic...

Got home after listening to my glorious exhaust note to find my new SCHRICK 264? CAMS where sitting by the back door for me[H]

So I think I should make 280+ with all the mods in...

I cant believe my OEM cats have burnt out!

Thats insane! Both things - your power and the fact your cats are dead.
Did you have any error lights show up on the dash or logs on VAGCOM?

I reckon those cams should give more bhp than 280, will they not? Are you remapping your remap to suit?

No warning lights at all[:O]

I havn't checked the car with vag com for ages, but it didn't show up at the last service.

It seems to make sense now... The last 3 RR results where as follows...

Standard car 234bhp (RR over a year ago)[:)]

Remapped car with miltek cat back exhaust 271bhp (RR approx 9 months ago)[:D]

Remapped car with miltek cat back and CAI 247bhp (RR 3 months ago) - ???????????????[:(]

So I think somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd RR day my cats have burnt up??????[:mad:]

As for the cams... ATM I am hoping 280bhp if added to the car as it is?

But... And this is a BIG but, I am thinking of installing a stand alone ECU!!!! and mapping to suit.......

Watch this space!

The thing that cracks me up is the fact the dealer will replace them at ?849 + vat!!!

And they are just going into the roofspace! Rather than just giving me a free service or something.

Wow, seems the cats collapsed inside and really restricted the flow!

I reckon you should speak to MRC regarding the ECU. If its the same as
what they were talking about at the megameet then its not such a good
idea as you lose a lot of important functions.

But i'd suggest a custom remap once the cams are fitted to compensate
for increased lift/duration and hence more air/fuel flow. Are the cams
high end or mid range power do you know? I'd have thought more around
the 290bhp personally at the end of it all. I think cams would add more
bhp alone (without a remap) than 3-4bhp.

The cams are mild.... So they are for mild range performance.

The ecu is the same one that was in HPA's dual turbo R32...

Watch this space!

The only downside is I loose my superchip map..... thats money wasted!

Superchips give you a "key" which is just like a digi camera memory card...

This holds the code for your car.. I wonder if I could sell that on ebay?

I cant sell my ecu gary. I need it for the car???

Did the Readiness codes on vagcom not show thje cat as faulty, or not
heating properly? I would be interested to know as my 4mot has
always felt strangled by the exhaust, I reckoned at one stage it could
have been the cats! no way id pay for new or aftermarket ones, I may
just get a cat bypass pipe.

As a matter of interest i would love to see a butt dyno of your car
with vagcom as it should give a more true reflection of BHP esp before
and after the cams.

Can't you sell that ECU complete with Superchips map to get some money back?
I think gary means do a part ex with another R32 owner for his standard
ECU or even better speak to PHATVR6 on here he recently broke an R32
and put the motor in his 4mot on the 4mot ecu, he may do a deal for
with you.

andy.... you tell me how to do a butt dyno with vag com and I will do it!

btw. I have a brand new set of cats for sale thanks to my vw waranty!

question , is this a usal thing that happens ie the cat falling apart , im having my cat back milltek fitted next week ,

so just conserned did it show any signs of breaking down at all?

hey Martyn it would be excellent if i could put my pd diesal exhaust on your r32 and blow my cat to pieces. Shame it doesnt fit.

Im not lookin' forward to seeing and hearing you pass me in belfast.

I was only half successfull with this last time as for some reason the
spread sheet usses MPH as a speed whwereas my version of vag com
used KPH so heres some instructions off of an Audi forum

Be warned I reccomend you get a wife/missus or mate to hold the
laptop as you try a 3rd gear acceleration run to the red line in your
car, it could be quite dangerous

PS alot of people feel that a Butt dyno is much more accurate than a regular, dyno.

As far as I know Wilko has done quite alot with the butt dyno and he
explained to my a while back why it is so accurate, so he may also be
able to guid you on how to do it properly
