After a few years of wanting a Boxster but thinking we couldn't afford it, we finally bought one yesterday.

And I cant believe how affordable it is!!!

We have gone for a 4 year finance deal, with a balloon payment at the
end - and Porsche guarantee a (IMO) staggering 45% of the car value as
the minimum value after 4 years!

So the Boxster will be costing us ?50 less than the S60 purely because of the residuals.

Big shout to Porsche Nottingham who were superb - gave us a great deal and very friendly, despite our pikey appearance.

Its a facelift model in Seal Grey;

And before anyone says it, no I can't afford a 911....................

Its no supercar with that sort of power, but the delivery is superb - it feels much quicker than my old TT225 but on paper it is similar.

And the sound is luurrvely [:D]

If you wanted a german motor which was fast didn't you think of the old
e36 bmw m3 as there really cheap and can be picked up for about 8-9k
but still a porsche still has that heritage to it that its a sports car
just by the name.

Satnam - Its a different car m8. German and fast is too broad a
category. 1 is a saloon and the other a 2 seater convertible -
different package different market.

My bro had a Boxta and they are superb - I have always liked them and
can see getting one for the mrs in the future to sit next to the GTI

Congrats mate and enjoy it! I is green

Excellent choice mate.

I've been thinking about one for the last couple of weeks- been going on Boxa.net etc.

Surprised that they will do that kind of finance deal on a used car- that really is pretty good. Although I'd imagine it will be worth closer to 55% of it's value in 4 years since it doesn't have to take the new car depreciation hit.

Would be interesting to know how easy it is to live with day to day as me getting one would hinge on the missus using it for her short commute while I used her Fabia for my 30 mile each way 4-up lift-share commute.

She's already vito'ed any thoughts of getting an Elise or VX220 because she wouldn't want to commute in it. How easy is it to get into etc? Wide sills? Small door aperture with the roof up?

I suppose I'm just dreaming 'cos it's two years until my Golf is paid off, but hey, you gotta dream don't you!?!

Simply a different league! You can't make comparisons like that. BMW... Porsche... Hmmm, I know which I would choose.

Nice car MOB!

My Dad had a series 1 Boxster S which I was unsure of until I drove it. The figures do not suggest sh1t off a shovel but as a driving experience goes, it is lovely. The sound is spot on and its so planted. He's now got a series 2 Boxster S which I love. People that see Boxsters as poor man 911s are the bitter type that will never own either.

I think you've got a nice car there.

I used to have a VX220 - so I can compare the 2;

The VX220 is a wonderful car to drive, but they really are a compromise
for day to day driving, winter driving etc - you can do it but it isn't
pleasant - and they are a pain to get in and out of. As a toy
they are pretty perfect.

The Boxster has no such issues, so long as you remember they are RWD
and most have no traction control - not a major issue, but they can
slide if provoked.

Getting in and out of a Boxster is simple - no high sills to get over -
it is fairly tight inside but fine for me. The roof is lined so
its pretty refined for a roadster.

Just to show you what the finance score is;

- ours was reduced from ?30k to ?28k cos of the time of year/poor sales etc. We got another ?600 off

- 10% deposit

- ?385 per month for 4 years 8% APR

- minimum future guaranteed value 45%

I think that is pretty reasonable!

Very nice car and a tremendous deal as well. Totally disagree with the earlier comment about the M3.

It's a PORSCHE for goodness sake! You wont look back on your life and say "I'm glad I bought a BMW" but you will regret not buying a real sports car.

Well done I am insanely jealous, my only hope is that now my wife is used to a smart roadster I could justify a Boxster on practicality grounds. Now if only I had the cash!!!

Excellent mate, looks fantastic. Porsche residuals make them suprisingly affordable; I almost did the same as you !

I was going to have a grey 987 2.7 with Carrera S 19"s, and it was
going to cost only about ?40 a month more than the BMW. But I ended up
not doing it due to practicality issues and the fact the base car is so
basic; the dealer even admits you need to spend about ?5k on options to
get a nice spec, and that pushes the motnhly up considerably. Awesome
car in a great colour, enjoy it!

Cheers for the info MOB.

How does it compare to a Z4? Was it the 2.2 you had? The 3.0 version is another one on the list for a 'practical' roadster! Although I have to admit it doesn't quite have the same kudos as a Porsche.

I'll probably end up doing what Mike did (except it'll be a 330d) but as I said before, you've got to dream!

Yep I had a 2.2 Z4 which was nice - pretty fast, looked great IMO, handled ok.

But the Boxster is on another planet from a driving point of view - mid engined and a unique noise.

The main problem I had with the Z4 was the ride quality - appallingly harsh, and it didn't even have the sports suspension!!
