Now i know this topic has been brought up before, and after relentlessly searching the site and sifting through past threads, i found that no-one (to my knowledge) has yet answered this question fully one way or the other so i felt i had to bring it up again, as i'll soon be buying one....

I'm guessing i know the first two things you're probably going to say are...

1) They wont work on DBW models because of the MAF and problems with VAG-COM error codes,

and 2) Why do you want a noisy BOV when the re-circulating type fitted already will do the job better?!

OK, First of all, it has come to my attention quite recently that at least a couple of BOV's have been produced that WONT cause VAG-COM to show up error codes, one type is the GFB range and i'm sure the other i read somewhere is the Bailey DV26? Secondly, i know this is a sore subject with a lot of people on here with regards to the venting noise.

Most of you guys seem to prefer the silent re-circulating types... I however am prepared to stray away from this way of thinking as i have always loved the sound of turbo cars and the infamous "PSSSHHHHTTT" sound.

I realise that i am in the small percentage here that share this view, but at the end of the day, it's your car and i know you'll all agree with me on this, but you're going to do what YOU want aren't you, not what others want?!

So basically just to sum up, i'd like opinions on which is the loudest valve and also if anyone has got or has used a BOV on theirs, i would love to hear your comments/experiences. All feedback positive or negative will be greatly appreciated! Thanks. [^]

I have GFB hybrid bov on my 1.8t golf,i wanted the noise that the turbos make as i think it sounds cool(if youve got a turbo flaunt it!!!).I tried a couple of BOVS and also the cold air intake that everyone on here says gives you the simular sound, but nothing matched my mates scooby which sounded the mutz nutz on acceleration.

I read all about the gfb stealth and the gfb hybrid, but heard they can put the golf into limp mode etc etc,but i thought what the hell and tried it.All i can say is ive had the GFB HYBRID on the car for 3 months and i still grin like a Cheshire cat while accelerating!!!.I have not had a single problem with the car,it accelerates quicker than it did before and the amount of people that stop and look at the car as you pass them is amazing,

All in all the golf sounds as good if not better than my mates scooby, accelerates better than before and sounds the mutz nutz,go for it you wont look back i promise ya.

hope this helps

How exactly does it accelerate faster? A dump valve isn't going to improve performance unless the previous dump valve was knackered in which case you'll just get the car performing as it should have been in the first place.

The dump valve was Knackered and i also did the airbox RAM conversion hence faster at acceleration, plus revo helps :).I just forgot to mention those bits.

Forge Recirculating DV & Carbonio CAI will sound fantastic. A remapped car will be even louder I am led to believe.

Have you logged times with vagcom or similar?

Wonder what these people mutter to themselves as they stop and look?? [;)]

OK, so i've just had another read about the GFB's and you say you have the hybrid which is loud. According to what i've read, there are 6 BOV's in their range, although one is specifically for the Impreza. So out of the 5 that leaves us, it says that your's is the 2nd loudest out of the 5. So if your's is only the 2nd loudest in the range, and that's loud, then i can't begin to think how loud the others will be!! [:D]

I know it's each to their own (and it's not my cuppa) and I might be wrong, but doesn't the engine require the recirc DV for a reason? Also, at the end of the day, more energy is being used to create the sound energy and release the air than it would be to just recirculate it... thus BOV's for the 1.8T are more of a performance hit than for something with bigger turbos/engines (Imprezas, Evos etc) But, if you like the sound, go for it!

The HKS SSQV is far louder than anything in the GFB range, I think the Turbo XS RFL may only be of similar volume. I've had the HKS SSQV on my Leon for over 6 months with zero issues, no faultcodes, no CEL nothing and no apparent performance hit at all, certainly haven't noticed anything anyway. I took my plugs out after 6 months and they were totally normal, so no rich running either. As you say each to their own, I'm very happy with the HKS and the noise is awesome!

You may well have just made my day by saying that! The fact is, if the truth be known, that is the one i would have gone for ultimately, even before the GFB's!! I absolutely love the SSQV sound, it's perfect as far as BOV's go, but as far as i was aware HKS ONLY specialise in Japanese cars and i haven't seen the SSQV listed with compatibility for anything but Japanese cars? So how did you fit it to yours, did it need any modifications at all, any extra parts such as a fitting kit? How much was it and where did you get it from? Also the fact that it hasn't been running rich and throwing up error codes (that was going to be one of my main concerns along with possible hits on boost pressure). Well, what can i say, that's just put the icing on the cake!! [:D] [:D]

I fitted my mates GFB hybrid to my car whilst running my carbonio. 3 guys from the forum said it made no difference in sound at all.

Listen to someone with the CAI and see what you think. I think i will upgrade my current standard dv to a TT one, or an uprated recirculating one. i.e bailey, etc

ECS Tuning in the USA sell the full HKS kit for the 1.8T, it's the most popular BOV over there as it causes the least amount of problems. Here's a pic of mine:

Check the videos out on my site, lots of HKS clips there! Here's one of a Golf racing an SRT-4, Golf has the HKS SSQV: http://www.20v-turbo.co.uk/vids/srtvsgtit.wmv

Holy feck!! That's one ultra clean engine bay you've got there mate, must be murder to keep clean! So did you need any extra parts to fit the SSQV then? That looks quite a strange setup with it being sat on top! [:O]

fitted my bailey dump valve about 8 months ago sounds great only problem(s) i have had is that my turbo has blown up twice as from yesterday which costs me ?700 a time apart from that its great but im taking mine off tomorrow. dont know if the 2 are related but its costing me to much money.

The only way the two would be related would be if the BOV was not releasing excess boost pressure, which would put strain on the turbo - this would be obvious though as you'd get a chattering sound every time you vented pressure, which is compressor surge, not good for your turbo. I get nothing like that with the HKS.

My advice is get the carbonio 1st. then see if you still want a dv.

You may find you don't need one. I wanted the dv sound, i'm still running the standard dv and it sounds wicked.
