I have one of those boost gauges and it has 3 power wires.

Font Parallel Handwriting Circle Paper

Can someone explain what the battery wire does?

There is also a ignition wire which I wire to a fuse so when my car turns on the unit turns on.

Am I supposed to twist the battery and ignition wire together?

The light is self explanatory I will wire that up so when I turn my small lights on the unit lights up.

The boost gauge is one of those with lights and the dials go forward and backwards as you turn the unit on. Quite cool looking.

Any ideas?

if you twist the constant and switched 12v together and use a permanent 12v (battery) the gauge will drain the battery... if you just connect them both up to a switched 12v if it has memory settings everytime you turn the car off you'll lose those saved to memory bits... so find a switched 12v connect the yellow to that, find a 12v permanent and connect the red wire to that. and if i'm correct the illumination wire behind the dash is gray/orange... so can be tapped into somewhere behind the dash.. the black wire( -12v) just find a grounding point it'll work as intended that way.

I can't explain it any simpler than that.

I twisted red and yellow to the cigarette fuse and the light to my small lights. It works now!

I don't think it will drain as the unit does not turn on unless I turn the small lights on.
