The newer LCI models post 57reg are suppose to be with regards to swirl flaps.

Nice motors but expensive servicing.

My wifes 320d only needs a service every 20k these alternate between inspection and oil service. That beats my golf which needs a major service every 18ish K.

Phil have you had the mrs car serviced yet?, a inspection 2 @ BMW is the thick end of £400 plus parts.

Labour £100p/h

I've been looking into getting E91 and it seems that the cars are great with a few niggles but the dealer back and service leaves a lot to be desired. I suppose similar to VW but with BMW you get badge tax.

Turbos were quite common on previous E46 150bhp with imploding impellers and early E90's.

Swirl flaps are a problem on early E90 320d 163bhp, the flaps are for control airflow in the inlet and come loose with the ingesting and lunching itself.

Injectors can also be problematic on early E90's

Cases don't seem to be isolated to unloved examples, even early E90's with fsh the swirl flaps are an issue.

318d is a still 2.0 diesel but is detuned and don't have swirl flaps.

Post 57 reg they had a facelift and are known as LCI and the 320d had a redesign on the swirl flaps with power coming in @ 177bhp, these apparantly are ok but only time will tell with these.

We gave up on the main dealer after some really poor service and sky high charges for work on a problem they never could fix.

Local BMW specialist did the inspection service recently, not sure exactly how much she payed for the service but was less than £300. VW charged me £250 for my major service and it will need another well before the Mrs oil service is due. Also her tyres last 2 or 3 times longer than mine at least.
