Dont know about you guys but thats is one of the most hideous 5 door cars I've seen. They should have looked at the Alfa 147. 3 door might look slightly better but not a fan of the whole car and style to be honest.

Actually does it remind you of a Z Roadster (sorry I wasnt a fan) with 5 doors? what in bleeding hell are BMW doing? First 7 then 5 and now 1! Thank god the 3 Series still looks good.

Yes, it does resemble the old Roadster but it's not as bad as I was expecting from the comments. I also agree that the 7 is strange (rather like a large Hyundai) but sorry, I think that the 5 has great potential and looks interesting head on. I haven't seen many on the road but every time I see one my eye is drawn to it. Must be the sexy lights/eyes!

I've said it before, this car is ugly, but it will sell by the bucket load.

The press are quoting a price of 16k, that undercuts the Golf by a fair amount and top end Focus's and Astra's don't stand a chance, the badge will sell it.

Del's right, the looks will be immaterial to most - it'll be the badge and the dynamics that'll shift them and if they get the pricing right too then it'll knock holes in MkV sales and bye bye Ford/Vauxhall.

Whether you like the styling or not, you have to admire BMW for not de-valuing their brand and retaining the 'premium' factor i.e. it's not another bland euro box MkV/307/Astra etc.

The interior looks really good. And the rear isn't too bad...

But my God, the sides and front...

I thought BMW had learned with the 7-series (to my eyes the 5-series is much better and the M5 looks really good). It'll appeal to women & the 'New Man' brigade because it's a small hatchback & it's got the badge.

It's a pity because with RWD & BMW dynamics it'll probably be a brill little car to drive.

The next 3 series can't be that far off. Any of you BMW fans nervous?

Considering its main competition is an Audi A3 I think BMW just shouldn't bother.
