Was it only available in the Anniversary's???

Am desperatly trying to find a second hand one with all the handles, sunvisors, interiors lights etc etc but its proving to be a real hard one.

The interior on the golf is black and yellow, and having this naff grey headliner is just depressing! Black would look far better! Buying new from vw am guessing will cost a fortune, does anyone know of any companys that sell them? Any help would be greatly appreciated[^]

Yeah it is only available for the anni which in turn was only available in 3 door. I wanted a 5 door black headliner but not a chance.

I have seen one on ebay once but as it was an anni one and wouldn't fit mine I paid little attention to it.

your most likely find is going to be an interior specialist to make you one. I wouldn't go down the route of buying dye either..

The black headliners not as expensive as i thought it would be, evilhommer, fitted it to his car and he bought it new from the stealer for ?125-?150, it does look much better than the `old man` grey that vw fitted.

Having completed this mammoth task!!!! Almost....! I can say catagorically it IS worth the hassle. The whole thing is quite expensive to do... hz2921 is correct in that the headliner from stealers is about ?145. Unfortunately that is just for the headliner.

You need:

Door seals

seatbelt covers

grabhandles

a, b and c pillars.

new sunvisors

new sunvisor retaining clips

new centre rearview mirror (rain sensitive wiper components too (Over ?120) and mini visor.

new centre reading light

side reading lights with built in alarm sensors (WOW over ?200)[:O]

lights above sunvisors

and a trim piece that goes between the top of the c pillars at the back of the car

and a trim piece that sits by the glass of the boot lid(covers the third brake light and holds your parcel shelf up)

Also means... no sun roof compatibility.

no w8 light mod

A LOT of graft to get it in...

But still having said all this..... WORTH IT!!!!![:D]

I just need the sunvisors now ?50 a side!!!!! [:O]

Don't know if it's any use but the US R32 came with the option of black headliner and sunroof. If you can get a contact in the US you'd be able to get a proper sunroof compatable one with sunroof cover.

Mister E does have one, but it is incomplete (missing sunvisor/grab handles if i remember correctly). He also said it could do with a good valet (dusty) as it had been stored in a garage. I also asked if he new if all the door rubbers were there, he said he wasnt sure and couldnt really tell. Hence I decided not to buy as it sounded like it could be hard trying to source the missing parts.

Yeh I seen that one in the classifieds too, decided against it as it was incomplete. Mines a three door anyway, so I supose I better get on the hunt for an accident damaged anni! Some how me thinks that isnt going to be easy! ?50 A SUNVISOR! OMG!

Failing that my mk2 got a full retrim done at a company call Transcal (Scotland) and am about to take it back to get a headliner done in alcantarra....might just ask how much they would be for yellow leather! Wouldnt need to go on holiday anyway with yellow leather above ma head! lol

Not hard to source the parts new... they are all readily available from stealers but if you want to do a cheaper job then it's a lucky find if you can find an anni... I actually managed to buy a second hand roof lining on it's own... it's not perfect but i was lucky enough to get it with the alarm sensors.. which at the time I did not know would have cost me ?200 on there own.... I paid ?60 for the liner with them!!!![)]

a thankful bargain!!!

Check classifieds, less than 200quid for the majority of the bits - an absolute steal

Both sun visors are there and the door rubbers have been measured out for a 3 dr car but in all honesty, you may end up with leaks if you don't install the rubbers correctly so I'd advise you to keep your existing ones and dye them but I've checked them. The dust is surface dust that a hoover would remove - quite happy to use a cyclinder hoover on it [8D]

Evilhomer - Foxy offered me cash to separate too but it's better off as a set in my opinion. Just gonna sort some pics out for Golf Bird today, probably post them here too so people can see the number of bits involved

W8 mod is still possible with a black headliner....use some matt black spray! i've seen it done succesfully before!

I know, I have the link to the guy that did it in america... it's just that the finish wasn't perfect, and it took him a long time to do to... all that etching he did!!! I like the W8 mod ... but... judt doesn't seem worth that level of effort!!! [:D] Maybe when I have done everything else!![)]
