I have had so many problem trying to find a good dealership to take my car to!

Dealer 1 ( Vindis of Cambridge ) Milton Rd.

Due to the distance from my house i used to use Vindis... they were handy for parts etc.. but their customer service and support is very poor. I asked them to look at my rear washer system as it was inop and when i collected the car, they said they had reconnected the hose which was detached and tested it satis. When i tested it, the water was spraying all over the place (anywhere except on the windscreen) and had also leaked into my boot, which led to a corroded boot lock assy and the water shorted the alarm system. They had only called me 30 mins before closing time and were in too much of a rush to look at it again. When i took it back the next day, they shrugged it off and said they had tested the system suitably. I also had my suspension bushings changed by them and 6 months later, they said they need to be changed...again!

Upon collection of car at another time, there was a scratch on the drivers door and they would not admit to that even though i inspect the car upon delivery. I complained to the Manager who is reluctant to accept any responsibility and informed me it was not worth my time complaining to the Head Office as he was the highest person I could complain to.

Replacement of MAF unit - charged ?150 but was still faulty afterwards. Purchased the unit and installed it myself...worked! What did they do???

Centre console replacement - they managed to crack the unit and didn't install the screws in all places resulting in one side having a 4" gap whilst the other was totally flush. Don't they have experience with these?

Bought a window regulator kit for a 5 door, they changed one and kept the rest of the kit! They had said it was in the car but it wasn't!

Dealer 2 (Shepphards of Bishops Stortford)

Initially, their service was good. However, they soon developed a poor attitude when I noticed my alloy (BBS) had been kerbed by them. They said i was fussy and that they could not afford to accept the damage had been caused by them even though it was very obvious due to the scraped alloy paint all over the tyre. What they may view as "fussy" in my opinion is costly to me and i don't think there is anything wrong with trying to look after your car (especially when you spend most of your salary on it). I always inspect the car before i leave it at a garage because of this reason.

Front bumper recently resprayed, took the car there for some work, upon collection i noticed some white paint on the bumper obviously from another vehicle. When they were questioned about this, again this was shrugged off and advised me to polish it off. The mark was not there before and the car park is very tight.

After all this, I don't see myself buying a VW again (as much as I love the Golf). I just cannot deal with the customer service and incompetent engineers. They can't even remove panels without damaging them, yet they do this day in, day out? I manage to remove them without scratching them...why can't they? They also talk to you like you have no idea when it comes to maintenance. If i could stamp up my own service book and MOT, I am sure I could do a better job!

GREAT cars, BAAAAAAD aftersales / maintenance support!

I feel sorry for you mate. I have yet to experience this level of incompetence at my dealership, but I have only been there the once !!

This seems to be a recurring theme on this forum all over the country. I would like to say I would not accept their excuses, no matter what, but it's easier said than done.

Best of luck finding somewhere for your car, maybe a specialist might be a better option, even if it means a journey. Don't give up on the Golf just because of some useless techs.

i use lancaster audi in liverpool for my S4 and well my golfs isnt covered so take it to wherever depending on what needs doing if i can't do it myself..

lancaster audi in liverpool are a dream to deal with.. and if i was buying a new car i would go through them..

only bad thing is the lady on reception... she thinks i haven't actually been in the dealership and makes me wait on the phone for god knows how long to just say.. customer service is busy when all she can do is turn around look if they are there or not on the phone and then tell me.. easy...

That kind of disrespect is bad news [N]

Clearly a business has to turn over jobs quickly to be profitable but that's no reason to mistreat customers' hard-earned property, and some do a better job than others. I've mainly used Morden VW for servicing, my car has always been returned mint, even washed and the steering wheel covered in cling film while in the workshop, despite being a very busy service centre with four entrances to the multiple unit workshop. The numerous times I've used John Ashley Panelcraft's official VW servicing department has also been problem-free.

It helps to get to know the staff on friendly terms and when they recognise your car, you know you will get good treatment.

You are far from being fussy mate.........its your car & your money that has been spent on it so you should expect them to look after it accordingly & if the do damage something then they should admit it straight away to avoid any hassle in the long run.

If i was you i would not have left the premises till they agreed to repair/replace what has been damged by them.

We have had 1 or 2 "mishaps" here with customers cars, & we always tell the customer straight away when they return to collect the car & tell them that it will get fully repaired at our cost & we will provide them with a courtesy car while theirs is getting repaired. And 9 times out of 10 they are happy we have owned up & taken full repsonsabillity......

Mate I'm a bitter bunny about my stealer they where horrendous. Not wanting to take over your post here are some of the problems I wrote to VW UK about, I asked them WHY sarcastic I know but I was angry. 2 years on and I still grind my teeth thinking about it.

Ever since I can remember all I have wanted is a VW Golf GTI. It took me a considerable length of time to save up my hard earned money to put down a deposit, once I finally purchased one from one of your main dealers located in Preston, Lancashire I have encountered serious problems with both the car and the dealership. I would therefore like to ask you, why you think the following problems have occurred:

Why did the police phone me to ask me why the banger I part exchanged for my GTI had been found dumped on the side of the road in Blackburn?

Why did the dealer forget to register my extended warranty, this meant I had to wait a month before they could order a clutch and flywheel?

Why doesn't the dealer know how to use an engine clamp? There are huge dents where the engine clamp was resting after being secured improperly. The dents are bad and the paint has flaked off along where the bonnet rests.

Why did the dealer only change one failed coil pack when they new all where faulty and would eventually fail, yet they only replaced one the first time it happened? Isn't this a common fault?

Why did the dealer call round to my house late at night and swap courtesy cars without my permission? My sons buggy and my works laptop where in the boot and it was very annoying to have to pick them up from the dealership the next morning. Which is approximately 20 miles in the opposite direction I needed to go. As you hopefully will no doubt appreciate to find that the car the dealership had left had no fuel in was annoying, realising that there wasn't enough fuel to make it even to the nearest petrol station was upsetting. What made matters even worse was the fact that my mobile and wallet where in my jacket pocket which I had last seen on the back seat of the original curtsey car.

The letter was two pages of why's, they where all about equally bad things!

A couple of weeks later I got a call from the dealership, I was offered a further 12months extended warranty free, the next service free, a car valet free, all dents and scratches removed from the car, free as you would expect. I of course asked for this in writing. It was far off putting right what they had done wrong but it helped ease the pain.

Dont like to moan but I have to agree with you, I've had nothing but bad service from VW dealers.

Firstly it took nearly a year for Heathrow VW to replace the locks on my Mrs Polo a few years ago after it was broke into (we never paid the excess to them but annoying never the less).

Secondly tried the VW dealer in Walton (cant remember their name) but picked car up with light scratch on bumper and similar to your story parking area was tight!

And last experience it took Heathrow VW (yes I know I shouldnt have gone back to them, but it was a few years later!) three attempts to fix what finally turned out to be a loose connection to the air con/fan control unit after replacing both the alternator and fan control unit.

Going to try the Skoda dealer in Walton next for a new cambelt. The guy I spoke to on the phone couldnt have been more helpful or friendly coupled with the fact that both Heathrow VW and Beadles in Dartford (near where I work) want around 580 quid (not misprint ?580) where the Skoda dealeres want 320 for exactly the same job.

Grrrrrr......

It is very annoying that alot of VW dealers dont match the cars for quality.

Every bloody VW garage i've used for servicing/warrenty work has scratched/damaged my 3 Golfs i've owned.

My blue Gti got scratched numerous times whilst being repaired at their
paint shop... God knows how a car can come back more scratched then
before it went into the paintshop..

My Anni Gti got given a nice phat sratch/gorge in the wing whilst being serviced..

My R32 has had the drivers door sill scuff plate scratched by Beadles
Dartford - although to be fair I'm not too annoyed because it's
something that can be replaced easily. I just can't be bothered
to go back and complain. I dont like the feeling that they make u
feel like either u're lying, or to them it seems 'petty'.

Fortunatly I have found myself a VW independant specialist (infact Ex
VW garage!) which are most excellent in everything that they do.
The work is of the highest quality, and they are a fair bit cheaper
than VW too.

If I buy another VW I'll do the same again... I'll use my independants
for all servicing/maintanence, and only use VW for warrenty.

It's enough to make you cry. I honestly think that the dreadful service you get from dealers will result in many of us deserting VW come renewal time. Which is a real shame 'cause the cars are decent.

Who is the specialist you are using? and are they anywhere near Dartford (work over that way)?

Hi Guys,

Just a update. VW sheppards want me to give them the alloy for refrub but they are going to provide me a spare wheel.

Here is the thing the spare wheel is going to a a 15incher... heh... apparently might take 2 days to get the alloy back.

now what i dont get is how can i be driving with 3 18" and 1 15inch?

i drive 60+ miles a day!

I was going to make the suggestion of getting one of those mobile alloy repairer to come down... Or can anyone recommend a good alloy repair company for my BBS CH?

last thing i want is for the repaired alloy to look different from the others.
